Bride has a new seats that suits the FD according to their "simulation" (product selection guide).
The A.I.R. and the EDIRB (bride backwards) seats.

I bought the Braum Advan seats, which have narrower width dimensions than the Corbeau Evolution. The recline mechanism on the Braum hits the inner rocker/doorsill, so the seat won't go back all the way, I need that extra backwards travel. I posted pictures earlier in this thread. Does the Evolution seat go all the way back.....does the recline mechanism stick out the way the Braum seat does, I can't see your recline mechanism in your pictures....just can't figure why the Evolution's fit and the Braum's don't?

If anything my problem with BRIDE seats is that even if you're skinny enough, the belt holes are almost always too low. Even the XL seats IIRC.

Basically only time I am happy I am short (5' 8") is when I remember at least I fit in my dream car.

That is true enough, Brides are made for shorter people. So is the FD, your head will not fit in the FD with a helmet on if you are tall.

I meant fat and broad by "larger of us", not taller- should have been more clear.

Just wanted to drop a quick post, the Recaro Profi SPGs fit perfectly well (they found a home in my Spirit R), but only with specific hardware from Recaro JP. If anyone's interested I needed the following parts (these part numbers only work with Recaro JP, Recaro GmbH didn't have any of the parts required).
FD3S Baseframe (1082.511.1)+(1082.511.2)
Offset side mounts (1600094J) x2
Recaro seat belt buckles (1400150+1400151)
They shift the seats about 5mm towards the trans tunnel so you lose some of adjustment.

So far, as I can find, there isn't any reclining seat, black-red stitch, that fits the FD 2 seater without sacrificing backward movement and headroom. The FD 4 seater had different interior side trim so there are more options for seats. The Sparco SPX black-red stitch looks like it might fit, it's a great looking seat....but at $3200 per seat plus shipping it'd cost almost $7000 for seats, that's it's too expensive for my budget. Bride doesn't have a seat that fits a 6' person without modifying the interior trim. I got my Braum Advan seats to fit with the Planted mounts, but I had to reverse the seats, (drivers seat to the passenger side, passenger seat to the drivers side). This gave me full backward movement, but my head is really close to the roof, can't fit a helmet on. Also I had to order the Planted mounts without the inner seat belt mount because they hit the recline mechanism which is rubbing the transmission tunnel. (you can just cut the seat belt mount off the stock Planted FD mounts). With no inner seat belt mount you can't use the stock lap-sash seat belts, I went to a 4 point seat belt. The other problem is after-market seats hit the door, any shoulder bolster wider than 21 inches will be a problem, The Bruam Advan are 20.5 so they just clear, the lower bolster is 20 inches it hits the door, but the door will close.
So after all this research, frustration, sweat, money and pain, I'm getting the stock seats re-covered at a custom shop. If anyone out there has some more info on seats I'd like to hear it.

While they have the stock seats taken apart, remove the foam from the butt and see if you fit down in there. I LOVE how low I sit in the stock seat with no foam, but it gets uncomfortable on the legs after about an hour. If the side foam can be modified some, that might do the trick.
I'm 6'3" and with no foam I have about 4" if room above my head, plenty of room for a helmet. If it wasn't for the side bolster foam hurting the legs after an hour, that's what I'd be using now.

I have the same experience on long drives with stock seats....my right upper leg goes numb, then starts to hurt. That's one of the reasons I wanted to try some different seats. I haven't been on a long drive with the Braum Advans yet.....Thanks speedjunkie for the feedback.

Your leg goes numb with the stock seats the way they are already? Damn lol. I'm usually good on long drives with the stock seats with all the foam. My problem is with the butt foam removed, the side pieces start to hurt the sides of my legs after a while, but the seat actually works really well like that. SO much headroom with a helmet and my eyes are level with the steering wheel, where normally my head is pretty much touching the roof and I can almost see the nose of the car I'm sitting so high.
Even with the OMP seat I'm using right now my knee will start to hurt after several hours, but that has to do with the side bolsters holding them in the position they do (not really a bad thing) and that was after doing a 9 hour fun drive one day. But even with the OMP I'm not much lower than the stock seat. I barely fit with a helmet. I picked up a used Ultrashield that I'm going to tinker with and see if I can get it on the stock rails and cut the aluminum out of the butt and modify it to sink it down between the rails like the stock seat. That's where the headroom really comes from. I might try a Kirkey Road Race seat too and do the same thing.

Hi D4rw1n....never got an answer back, he must have sold the car. I didn't want to cut anything either. While I'm waiting for the stock seats to be red stitched I found a way to make the Braum Advan seats fit without any interior mods.
Reverse the seats, Drivers seat to the passenger side, passenger seat to drivers side, using the Planted seat mounts with the seat belt inner mount cut off or just order the mounts without the seat belt mounting tab, it has to come off because it hits the recline mechanism. If you don't go to a full harness system it'll be necessary to find a seat belt web receiver with a 10" reach that will mount to the stock inner bolt hole on the floor. The seats fit Ok, go all the way back, the doors close, shoulder clearance about 1/4", bottom seat bolsters 'just' touch the door. I'm almost 6ft, head clearance is about 1 1/2". The seats look good in the car, give the interior a more updated look.
I don't think there's any recline seat that's going to fit an FD correctly without sacrificing rearward travel and headroom.....unless it has the rear seat option, the rear seat side interior pieces are tapered at the bottom to allow easier access to the back. The stock seats are specially designed with the recline mechanism tapered in to clear the interior side moulding.
The Bride recline seat install pictures I've seen all have the rear seat option, the other pictures with different recline seats don't go all the way back, which is no problem if you're under 5'8". Sparco SPX series has a red stitch seat that may fit because the recline mechanism is in tighter and up higher....but the seats go for $3200 each...by the time you buy the mounts you'll be looking at $7000!
From the seat dimensions I can't see how the Evolution could fit any different than the Braum Advan.
If anyone out there has some good info on seats, please share it!

just finished bolting my sparco evo 2 in my fd using griffins mount. hit the door card just a little. seat sit super low and gave me at least 4 inch of space for an helmet. im 34 waist 5'9 seat can fit a 35 wasit comfy as well. those of you that are 6'2 with 34 - 36 waist this is a great combo to clear your helmet. my seat is mounted all the way forward as well.

What I found from googling: RECAROiƒŒƒJƒƒV[ƒgj@MAZDA@RX-7@FD3S‚ÉRECAROiƒŒƒJƒj@TS-G SK2 RED@•@SR-7 SK100 BK/RED@‘•’…
SR7 fits. There is some interference with center console but the seat slides. The seat touches the roof slightly when slid all the way back, but it's not really a problem.

Hi Guys i just cleaned up the list and updated the list with the last 6-7 seats i tried fitting over the years.
Will fit:
1. Stock FD / R1 / Cloth / Leather
2. Recaros from the Spirt R / RZ
3. Gias Lowmax
4. Bride Zeta III
5. Bride Vios III lowmax
6. Mazdaspeed Type-F
7. Memoryfab s58
8. Sparco Sprint V
9. Recaro Profi and or SPG ( with slight rubbing to the door but not much, if you use Recaro rails instead of bride it will fit fine)
10. Sparco Roadster
11. Sparco Evo with stock seat rail (Touches doorcard, trim 10mm off shoulder bolster)
12. Sparco Milanos
13. Sparco Evo 2 LF (Touches doorcard, trim 10mm off shoulder bolster)
14. Tillett B6F XL 47 (which is the largest Tillett seat, meaning that they should all fit. Has a 30 degree layback angle, which is a little too much IMO. It will fit basically to the floor with the right rails. Probably the best option for REALLY big guys with long arms and short legs. Heavy and expensive, though.).
15. OMP HTE-R 400 (haven't bolted them in yet, but they easily fit sitting on the floor)
16. Bride Gias II Low Max on LR Rails (some rubbing on tranny tunnel making sliding difficult on JDM passenger side, drivers side is perfect fitment)
17. Recaro Pole Position ABE's with Griffiths seat bases. It was a very tight fit with only a slight touch on the drivers side (RHD)
18. Recaro Pole Position FIA with Griffins seat base
19: Recaro Pro Racer Han SPA
Will fit with modifications
1. Corbeau FX1 - fits with seat modification. Corbeau FX1 Install in FD
2. Sparco Evo 2 - - fits with seat modification.
3. Rx-8 seats (can be made to fit by modifying the racks)
4.Cobra Imola (with some minor triming of door side shoulder wing)
5. Sparco Torino 2 (modify the stock rails and get rid of the seat belt buckle they fit (barely))
6. Japanese knockoff of Sparco Pro Drive (shoulders hit the door and leg bolsters will probably rub on the console trim).
7. OMP HTE-R XL (halo would hit the window, both leg bolsters would need to be trimmed, shoulder bolsters seem to fit)
8. Cobra Suzuka Pro GT (only fits driver's side and only after trimming shoulder bolster and both leg bolsters. Non GT model needed for passenger side.)
9: Recaro SRD/Speed (using JP market seat mount/slider) Sliding is limited due to adjustment **** hitting rear panel (very tight fit near tunnel)
10: Evo X Recaro OEM seat (using oem Evo Slider and welding the Fd bracket) (very tight fit and limited adjustment)
Will NOT fit:
1. Sparco Fighter
2: Recaro Pro Racer Han SPA XL
3: Sparco Evo 2 US

is anyone located in SoCal near Orange CA that's interested in some R&D time to help make a seat base&rail bolt on solution for recaro pole position? please send me an PM.
this would help the community a lot as to what seat options we have.
the Recaro pole position is great for waist 33-35 for those of us in the medium build..
picture of example mock up on my car.

I'm selling a pair, driver and passenger, brand new 'Planted' seat mounts for an FD Mazda RX7.

These seat mounts will fit any aftermarket seat....Recaro, Sparco, Bride, Cobra, Braum, Momo, Kirkey, OMP....etc.
Asking $280...will ship.
