Jdm Rear seats (fd)

For the guys that have the jdm rear seats, swaped or stock...Are these seats even useful..? Would a car seat even fit in properly?

Now that my car is getting closer to being put back together the thought of how i have a kid now that will also be taggin along to shows burns a hole in my brain...i need more seats! hope i dont gotta trade it in for a supra:(

No, they aren't useful. You might be able to drive with a small child on the passenger side as long as your front passenger doesn't need any legroom, but otherwise they're only there for Japanese tax purposes. A full-sized adult male in the drivers seat will mean there is zero room for anyone to be sitting behind him.

They would probably fit a baby seat... But they also KILL the rear hatch storage space.

I don't own an FD but I test drove a JDM one the other day.

well my wifes short like 5'2"... so she can sit with the seat all the way up, we only have one kid so noone will be behind me

I have the JDM rear seats and honestly, I wouldn't put a kid back there.

With the seat up, you *can* fit a somewhat normal sized person (5'8" - 5'9" / 150) but it does not seem safe.

Personally, I like the look of them over the bins, and I think they are more useful then the bins. You can fit much more back there as you aren't limited by the bin tops / have a rear floor.

Kid in a car seat doesnt fit back there very well. BTDT.

not very useful but i got them for my kid, she is 4 and fits fine with my wife in the passenger seat. a car seat would not fit imo. i agree though they do look alot nicer than the bins and its kinda cool to have them.

Tallest I'd recommend for the back is 5ft 5in
Heaviest 130lbs (seat is not friendly to those with wide rears)
I don't think a car seat will fit properly but a 4-8 year old should be fine in them without a booster seat. Some areas do have booster seat laws so that might be an issue.

My wife is 5'4" and she fits back there no problem, even for a 2+ hour drive. Yes, the front seat has to be scooted up but not so no one can sit in it. Beyond that I find them extremely useful for throwing a backpack or a sweatshirt back there, just more useful than the bins, for me.

I can also stand a duffel bag up vertically so for a weekend trip I stand up two large duffel bags in the back seats and the hatch is free for cargo. The rear seat backrest piece (that replaces the OEM center panel) also flips down instead of completely coming out like the center panel, making it more useful. Overall I'm very happy with the rear seats and recommend them.

As far as a baby or child seat, I've never had to install one so I can't comment but I believe it would be difficult, to say the least, and less than convenient.

So the back rests flip down?

In that case I'd say go with the rear seats...

they are very usefull as watermelon carriers. Limit 2.

I have the rear seats and can chime in on this. I am around 5'8" and with my regular sitting position, I cannot fit another behind me. However, on the passenger side you can probably fit a 5'7" in passenger and another 5'7" behind. They are not in the most comfortable positions but it works fine. A chick in the passenger and another behind will easily fit as well.

Swapped out my bins, for full JDM rear seats. I bought them for my 2 yr. son, wife made me get them or lose the FD. Fits with no problem with a small booster seat, also fit with new born car seats, DIDNT with his toddler seat. I only drive MAYBE 20 -40 min trips ,wifes 5'8 140 lbs, everyones happy. I kept all my rear swapped parts, but I like the seats better. Tons of people like them , tons dont. Sets your FD apart from the rest at the meets.. It is VERY tight, but hell Im the driver, sold my supra for an FD. Didnt want to start over again. Now if Johnny Law are asses in your area, your in the wrong .US FD's are stamped 2 seater, 4 seater = a ticket !! Price you pay to play in a 4 seater FD.. Ive been pulled 3 times ,never a ticket. Just BSing about the car.. One pulled me only to talk about the car. I was cool after, but did break a sweat at first.:sweatdrop.. Good luck 1Tx.

Didn't know about the ticket thing. So you will be flagged even if you have the rear seat belts too?

Hossler 04-24-11 06:50 PM

thanks for the imput guys, yea so it looks like i will be in the market for back seats!

1QWIK7 04-24-11 08:08 PM

Got my rear seats for cosmetics only.

Had a girl sit back there one time and she was tiny, like 5'3 and she barely fit. It was very uncomfortable for her.

Its only for show basically. Def not as big as the MKIV supra rear seating. You can actually fit an adult back there comfortably.
