how to install new carpet
 

i have an 88 SE and i am redoing the entire interior. i ve painted the all the trim, removed all the carpet, etc. Since im putting in the new carpet by myself i was wondering if anyone has done this and what kind of tools do i need to complete this project. also what kind of sound dampining material should i use.

well all you basically need as tools are the tools you used to take the seatbelt and seats out with....

since you have your carpet out, take advantage of the empty cab floor and clean it up, vaccuum out all of the debris. if you find any rust, sand it down and seal it up, if there are any leaks patch them up.

while your cleaning let the carpet lay out in the sun, in order to make it pliable and easier to position in the car.

when your laying out your new carpet, make sure it fits flat to the floor before you start anything. once you know that is the way you want it, feel around for the bolts, then grab a screw driver and poke holes into the carpet. (make sure you poke the holes smaller then you think you need them)

as for the tarboards, aluminized jute padding, or any sound deadening insulation, im not exactly sure how to install these. though i know it will take alot of extra work.

for glueing youre going to need about two cans of spray.
dont spray the whole carpet at once, do sections by sections, spary a piece then lay it down, then spray another section and firmly push it down.

you should start carpeting from the front cockpitside.
install one side at a time, start with the drivers side, do the carpet put the seatbelt in first then the seat, and see how that fits, then move on to the passenger side.

as a safety issue, its really important that when you reinstall the seatbelts, you torque the bolts to the proper specifications. the torque specs should be in your owners or service manual.

For bolts, thread the bolts into place and lay the carpet over them. That'll make finding the bolt holes easier. Then, use a utility knife to cut through the carpet at the bolt head.
