How do I fix sagging cloth headliner?
 

I have a sagging headliner. There is appearently no adhesive spray that soaks/penetrates the thin cloth and sticks it onto the ceiling. Is there?

I don't want to take the whole headliner out so how I can fix this?

PS, this is not for my 3rd gen.

Remove the existing falling headliner and replace/ recover with new headliner material held on with Upholstry contact cement (which can be sprayed on with a glue gun or glue pot).

The cement and glue gun can be found at most fabic stores that sell automotive upholstry stuff (like headliner).

I've never been able to do what you are proposing successfully.

Your only option is to remove the entire headliner and replace it with new fabric, it's really very easy and cheap... You can buy the new fabric at just about any automotive upholstery supply place by the yard.
It's usually a very thin foam with the fabric already attached. Comes in a few colors. You'll need to take all the old foam off the headliner and glue the new stuff on. You can use 3M Super 77 Spray Glue, and you'll need two large cans - about $10.00 per can at Ace Hardware. Don't skimp on the glue or it will come off in a few months and you'll have to start all over again. Cover it completely and especially the edges.

Cut the new fabric about 4 inches larger than the headliner all the way around.

Spray the headliner AND the new fabric completely in horizontal and vertical passes, let it tack up for 5 minutes and then press the two together. You'll want to lay them both out side by side and then SLOWLY start taking the fabric and rolling it over onto the headliner, smoothing it out with your hands as you go.
If you have any wrinkles or puckers smooth them out now since it will not come apart after the 2 glue surfaces have come into contact with each other for more than about 10 seconds.

Don't kneel on the headliner or it will leave dents in it, kneel on a piece of plywood instead to distribute your weight over a wider area. Trim with scissors when finished.

Let it dry overnight before reinstalling since the evaporating fumes from the glue solvent will permeate the other fabric in your interior and give you brain cancer. Try not to crease the headliner when putting it back in, get someone to help you support it as you
reinstall. You can bend it gently without hurting it.:cool:

Any of you guys tried Vinyl if so is it harder? or could it also be done?
