GUNK ENGINE BRITE BEST 2 Bucks I have EVER SPEND!
 

hey guys i have finished doing the engine cleaner thingy on my car with the help of the gunk engine brite heavy duty degreaser!!> and my gosh does the engine look shiny and awesome is the SHIIIIIIT!@&%&*!$#@!@. I love it Now i have a question!!, I want my engine to stay this clean should i

1. Do this same procedure once a month.

2. Use some kind or shiny protectant thingy like armor. I have heard taht armor messes up teh rubber hsoes so beside it what should i use.

Once again if u have 2 bucks go and get the gunk engine brite in any walmart superstore and ull be amazed!@

I have always found Gunk to be a very poor cleaner. Castrol Super Clean is the best in my opinion. Just don't let it sit on aluminium too long...

u do have to cover the electrical stuff it took me like 10 minutes is nto abig deal jsut cover all teh colored wires u see
and teh openings on the alternator. Is taht castrol super cleaner good? hwere can i buy it from? my engine bay is about 30 to 40% cleaner but maybe teh castrol would give me a better cleaniliness!!!

Gunk did an alright job for me when I did my engine swap last July.

I coated my entire engine bay, didn't bother to cover any electrical connections either. But, my engine, alternator, battery, etc. was all removed. I just sprayed Gunk everywhere and then cranked the power washer up and sprayed it all down. Looked better. Didn't do much to get the crud off the engine itself though, I tried all sorts of stuff to get the rotor housing clean. Not happening.

radiator cooled the car much better after being all cleaned up.

Maybe I will try the Castrol stuff or Simple Green. I can get both locally......

for the engine simple green has worked the best for me...didnt cover anything at all just sprayed then power washed.....its 12 a bottle around here

the best thing for rotor housing / tranny housing and things like that i find is brake cleaner that comes in the aerosole cans, it comes out fast and penetrates it all.... then i scrub with an old tooth brush...then spray some water on it to rinse it and clean with a paper towel....

While my '88 RX-7 is my daily driver, I also have a '99 NSX, and I got this off the nsxprime.com web site.

When the engine is very cold, use gunk in the regular way. When the gunk is washed off, spray the entire engine bay with ArmorAll Tire Foam and drive the car for at least 15 minutes. I tried this on my '88 and the car looked completely detailed.

The GUNK cleaner is aluminum safe so I recommend that to anyone cleaning their engine bay.

I would say no to doing it once a month (maybe once or twice a year depending on how much you drive the car). You should be able to keep up with normal spot cleaning with a decent brush, some carb cleaner and a rag.

As for the ArmorAll stuff on the hoses, I've heard both sides that it's ok to use and that it tears up the hoses. Just look for a cleaner that is safe to use on rubber and you'll be fine.

gunk engine cleaner was no good to me... $3.00 acn lasted for 1 ½ engine cleanings, and really didn't do too great a job, next time i am trying the simple green

I use LESTOIL, you can buy it in the grocery store along side the Pinesol, etc.

LESTOIL works well on the rubber hoses and plastic pieces. It also cleans off grease and leaves a nice smell afterwards.

As far as Simple Green, I have seen pitting on aluminum using that product if you leave it on too long.

What did you guys cover before spraying the engine down? Alternator, fuses, intake?

There is something else I HIGHLY recommened as opposed to tire shine stuff.

Silicone Spray

Not only does it leave the engine bay nice and shiny, but it also protects all the rubber and plastic components by preventing them to dry up. This is basically what new car manufacturers do. They spray an oil based liquid on the engine to protect everything and make it look nice-n-shiny
