Fiberglass? Plexi-glass? None of the above?
 

Yesterday I installed a progressive coolingmist injection kit and everything went smoothly until I tried to make a custom plexiglass piece that would press fit into where my stereo head unit used to be and have the square cut out for the coolingmist controller to come through. It was late and I was tired which might have been the reason for my intense failures, but I'm hoping there are other methods to just cut out a flat piece of material to use for your interior?

After some researching I've seen people use fiberglass but that seems overkill for this project, is there anything else out there that is easy to cut, can be painted black, and won't look too shabby?

Kydex. Already black. Easy to cut/sand/shape, and typically smooth on one side, lightly textured like guage pods etc., on the other.

Thank you for your help ptrhahn. I will look into doing that instead of this plexi-glass. I have a die-grinder but I prefer to use an exacto-knife, will that be sharp enough to cut this kydex material?

You should be able to cut Kydex with an exacto by scoring it a few times along a straight edge and then snapping it.

Also, kydex passes the FAA 60 second vertical burn test :lol: Just had to throw that out there.

McMaster has a 12"x12"x1/8" piece for about $9. www.mcmaster.com

Why don't you consider ABS Plastic. You can pick up a sheet from any Plastics dealer or from your local stereo shop. You can cut it with a knife or dremel and it forms easily with heat. Pretty cheap to.

Another good idea, I think they're relatively the same price per sheet.

This is a little off topic, but while reading the installation guide to my wideband it suggests that all aftermarket gauges that I'm running should be grounded on the same spot, preferably soldered to motor mount, otherwise the system may pick up noise. Does anyone have any advice about this method, worth the trouble or not? I was planning on just grounding it to the chassis but if that's going to cause my wideband signal to get corky on me then I'll do what they suggest....any ideas guys... or gals ;)
