fiberglass kick panels
ok i am planning on making fiberglass panels i seen a tv show were a guy used some sort of fleece or some other material to strectch over a wood sorta mold(not quite a mold but like a canvas to stretch the material over with the speaker rings and mounting stuff) he made and then added fiberglass resin i was wondering if this would work and what the best matterial is to use
thanks mike |
polyester resin and polyester fleece works best over MDF frame,
soak both sides of the fleece and then reinforce on the inside. |
if u use fleece its goin to take a hell of a lot of resin b/c it will definately soak a lot of it up.....i would recommend just using an old bedsheet....wrap ur mold with the bedsheet and then cover it in resin....wants thats covered and hardened u can add the fiberglass matte to it.....we've used that method for all my fiberglassing needs.....parker

Using a cotton shirt will reduce the strength of the pannel, polyester resin, polyester filler, why throw cotton in the mix? just stick with the polyester and use fleece. Strenght is not as important as with a fiberglass sub enclosure, but you still don't want to put your foot through the kick...

I Agree If your going to spend the time and money to make fiber glass kicks why cheap out on having to use three time the resin better the having to spend three time the time redoing the panels over again because of a clumsy friend Fleece works great wal-mart has a great polyster fleece that runs about 4 bucks a yard right around an 1/8 of an inch think. it is the same stuff i used to make the inserts on my door panels and it work great and also has great strength

yeh I grabbed a stocking, then stretched it to suit then applied the resin, once it was set I then had a shape to work to and just put 2 layers of fiberglass over the top. then just sanded it, painted it and was all finished :)
