(which means that i will have to make my own if i want what i want)

Although sometimes i look at the fd and it seems to be ok without it

i need some of your opinions

What about the pettit flares?

MontegoRx 09-06-06 07:18 PM

Why do you have to make your own Burnout? I love those flares, and there's a company (I believe ShineAuto?) that is selling them in the vendors section that are replicas made in higher quality material.

I think the tacked on look of the Feed/Mazdaspeed makes them look kind of cheesy, but I like the border flare blended into the fender alot.

darkphantom 09-06-06 07:31 PM

BURNOUTS ARE TO HUGE FOR MY WHEELS. If you look at the z06 those fenders arent too big from the burnout. Burnouts fenders just went crazy. which is why im not looking for something that big.

you got pics of the pettit flares

EDIT: i think i might go with chargespeed (damn $800 for one fender)

I definitely like the Chargespeed. That Feed widebody is great looking too. Speaking of which, Lupe, what did you run at the track when those pics were taken?

Pictures were taken last night................ slow :(

Naegleria_Fowleri 09-06-06 08:03 PM

I don't know what your definition of slow is, but I don't see 603 rwhp mixed with 2,201 lbs slow... lol Not unless your tires just never grabbed traction, that is.

And sorry to thread jack. I'm done now.

MontegoRx 09-06-06 08:42 PM

Well it's hard to say if Burnout is too big without a straight from the back view like Lupe provided. Those flares are amazingly unnoticeable from the back shot (possibly because they were molded). I still just love the "edge" of the burnout kit, even though I will admit it makes it look a little Z3'ish.

David Hayes 09-06-06 08:47 PM

Go with the Pettit flares. I've posted a bunch of pics of them on my car. Search for my name "David Hayes" or check out my vb garage and you'll find plenty of examples. I've kept mine bolted on - really like the way they look with the stainless steel bolts. You could mold them in but eventually they're certain to crack along the mold line. Start with the Pettit flares (www.pettitracing.com). They're inexpensive. If you mold them in and the get a rock chip, you're kind of screwed. By keeping them bolted, you can just unbolt the one with damage and have it easily repainted. I got mine painted and installed by Pettit for about $500, including the flares themselves. FYI- my back rims are 18X12.5 and the tires are 315s. You can go as small as 11.5s with 295s and they'll look fine.

Not to stick my nose where it doesnt belong, BUT. Depending on what your looking for (or not looking to do, like spend extra money) you could just flare your fenders yourself. Granted, I dont know if it is the *smartest* idea in the world, but my room mate and I did it to his srt-4 because he was having issues with the tires rubbing the interior of the fender/wheel wells when he hit bumps (if you have ever driven in the Hampton Roads of Va you will notice there are ALOT of bumps... everywhere!).

We took a sturdy pipe (I think it was 3") and slowly rolled it along from rear to front (putting the car in first, just creeping forward, simply keeping the pipe stationary in relation to the tire), then from front to rear. After several passes of this the car looked noticably different (obviously) but not horribly so. This is just a thought if you are looking for something that will give your car a different look, but not an obvious body kit appearance.

However, I would suggest being careful with it if you try this way, I wouldnt try to push out the fenders too much (at first) or too fast, it could chip the paint a little at the bottom of the fender. I think the SRT-4 had a small chip from where I gave it a smidge too much gas before letting off/countering with the clutch.

If you dont agree, please dont flame the crap out of me, just trying to help..

^ isnt that fender rolling? not sure

Hands down those are the cleanest. Pettit guys don't take it personally, discriminating taste but they look like ghetto meets redneck. As clean as those cars pictured are flare make it look plain goofy.

Why do these look nothing like the ones on the black RX7 with the chrome rims. I was actually considering getting the burnout kit until I saw this car. Those 2 cars are like a night and day differance.

*RX007* 09-07-06 05:05 PM

because my car is no where near completion nor are these profesional photos...
