FD speaker install tips?
I am planning on installing the 5.25" door speakers and the rear 6x9" speakers this weekend.
I know this isn't a very difficult install, but I was wondering if anybody had any good tips for me, like what NOT to do to break any panels, etc. I hate messing with the FD's flimsy interior, but the stock speakers are horrendous. Thanks for any help, Kevin |
how do you plan to attach the front door speakers? i have some rainbow 5.25 profis in the front door and had to custom make a fiberglass sheet to attach the speaker.

There are no attachment points? I wasn't aware of that. If needed, I'll fab something up.

not that im aware of, also if you really want good sound quality your going to need to sound dampen the doors.

Dale Clark has a great writeup on removing the door panels:
http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=21&mnu=5 Unfortunately I have a touring with the bose door speakers. I wanted to put aftermarket 5.25" speakers in there and then realized there is a whole amplifier housing attached to the speaker. If you have a non-bose stereo in your FD you should actually be in good shape. I'm still trying to figure out how to replace these door speakers.:wallbash: |
thanks for the link, it was very helpful.

^This is a very easy job if you don't have the Bose system. The speakers can be replaced in under 30 minutes. Follow Dale Clark's info and you'll be good to go. My only issue was the "triangle" insets on the top front door were brittle and one broke while I tried to remove it.
The back speakers are really easy. Just pop off the covers and remove the screws. While you're in there, you should soundproof at least behind the speakers. Many options exist for this (mat products, etc.). I used Quiet Coat on my entire car with great results. Search my name and you'll find the thread. Good luck. |
Just to inform you, the rear stock RX7 predisposition is for a 6x8" (at least on EU version) not 6X9", you might find some problem mounting that.

Yup, I believe they're the same 6x8". I accidently bought 6x9's and they didn't fit for me. |
