FD: Radio wiring
 

Greetings,

I've been researching the wiring for the radio/stereo unit in the base model FD.

I've taken a volt meter to the wiring harness and cannot get either a continuous 12V on the Blue/Red wire (or any wire for that matter.)

The switched 12V does not have voltage either with the key turned to "ON."

My question is, where are these wires going to?
I've checked the fuse panel by the drivers side floor panel, however stopped after reading the cover and didn't see anything related to the radio. (Is there a fuse panel for the radio?)

Everything else in the instrument and climate control cluster is operable, just no voltage on the wiring harness to the radio.

Any clues or locations I can check would be appreciated.

Apparently, the "Room" fuse located on the kick panel by the floor covers the radio.
I doubt this is the problem because all the interior lights are working.

Guess I'll keep looking.

Switched 12v comes from the ignition switch, through the "cigar" fuse to the radio.

Did you ever find out what was the issue? I have close to the same thing in my FD.

I haven't traced the wiring back to find the issue.
I'm convinced the wires are just not connected or cut somewhere back behind the dash. (My reasoning behind this is that it looks like someone installed something aftermarket at some point, and there were some components left behind in the dash.)

When it comes time to install a stereo, I'll just run 12V from the "cigar" circuit.

One place the wire(s) might get cut is behind the stereo near the two white pins that attach the black harness into the metal rails. If you take the stereo off, you'll see the two pins and the harness is in the opposite side. There, where the harness makes a turn into the stereo it touches the metal and might get cut/damaged over the time.

so I know this doesnt help you but I ran a new ground wire to the cage and it fixed my issue.

Little update.
Found out what was going on here.

Previous owner had installed one of those "vampire" type connectors to splice into the continuous 12V source. The connector used actually broke the wire so that's why I wasn't getting anything at the plug.

All is well now. Got my Android 4.4.4 double din unit installed complete with backup camera and full stand alone GPS unit.

Pretty slick. I'll have to post up some pictures later.
