FC enclosure possibility???

Is it possible to fit one 8" subwoofer in each of the storage comparments behind the seats? could anyone fabricate this?

John64 04-15-05 06:39 PM

8" will fit very easy! Fabrication would take fiberglass.

Yah, I fit a 10" in each, but your going to want to remove the storage compartment, otherwise it sounds like shit. just build a replica using wood and fiberglass. Its not that hard and it fits in nicely. There was a good thread on it that i used when i made it, but i can't find it now. When you mold the bottom of the box, i would use tinfoil. It molds and is easy to apply the fiberglass onto. When i did it, i used a wiremesh and that didn't work very well.

8" would fit very easy, i have 10's in mine. Its not hard to make the boxes yourself. As long as you have some tin foil, fiberglass and a little wood. If your going to put them there, you have to take out the storeage compartment that is there now, not just throw the speaker in there, otherwise it sounds like shit.

I have a 10" in each.

what is the use of the tin foil?

John64 04-18-05 06:27 PM

You can place tape down, then 77 adhesive spray then a layer of tin foil. The foil is there so that the fiberglass resin does not stick to your car. The tape just makes it easy to clean up if any leeks happen between the foil.

ok so maybe you guys could help me.. I am making a Rotor shaped box out of partical boad and was wondering if Bondo would stick to wood.. I looked on the side of a can and it says it does, but I wonder if I should use fiberglass instead. 'cuz I need to build up damn near 2 inches on 2, maybe all 3 sides.. I think I might be getting in over my head.. but I still want this box to look great... what do you guys think I should do?.. thanx for the help

Never use partical board for a sub box. it will fall apart. Use either plywood or MDF(I think its MD something) wood. and i didn't have much trouble getting the bondo to stick to the wood. Once you have a layer on its easy after that.

John64 04-19-05 06:44 PM

Actually, partical board would not fall apart! Its just not dense enough for enclosures, it flexes way too much. You would be best bet to make the box completetly out of fiberglass. You will use way too much bondo to make the curve sides. Bondo is not the strongest material to use for that. Get some flexiboard to make your sides. Its the stuff masons use to make curved walkways. Cut the bottom out of MDF, so you have your cruves. Make the top the same size. Now just attach them all together with the flexiboard making the sides. Put 4-5 layers of 1.5 fiberglass on the outside, then cut your hole for the speaker. Now put the same amount on the inside. There is the base of you enclosure. Sand it, then a nice layer of bondo to smooth it. Sand it again and carpet it.
