is replacing the sound insulation (not all, but most) in my car with dynamat worth it for sound and weight savings?

i heard somewhere that the insulation and rubber layers of the carpet r heavy..........any input?

just remove them and leave them out. =)

wont that kill my ears?....i thought of dynamat to reduce ear drum bleeding..lol

its helpful, but you only shed a couple pounds if you put more deadening in.

I would still add some after removing it.

Second Skin products are much more affordable than dynamat stuff.

I used Dynamat in my doors. They are much quieter now and the Dynamat Extreme was very easy to install. I have always heard that the other brands either didn't stick for crap or smelled horrible. The Dynamat was a very painless operation.

Try to find some "Roadkill". I used it on my last car and it was great; Self-adhesive, easy install, half the weight of Dynamat, make the panels solid as rock, never came off

Curious, why do you guys need dynamatting? Just how much power are you pushing? Cuz I thought dynamatting is only to control rattling...??

As pianoprodigy already mentioned, it helps reduce the amount of noise transferred into the cockpit.

I take it you mean noise from OUTSIDE being transferred INTO the cockpit? Cuz audio sux in the FD, so I wouldn't wanna dampen any sound on the inside...

I had to do it in my last car to keep the panels from vibrating. I had 2 15'' Audiobahns in the hatch and my roof would rattle to all hell. To fix it, I just superglued small pieces of wood to the roof and then put Roadkill over that. I didn't have one single rattle in my car when I finished. My peeve with systems is when cheap-asses roll down the road and all you hear is the trunk rattling.

Audio sucks in the FD compared to some cars, yes. However, it's better than others and better than nothing. What audio you do have can be enhanced by using sound dampening materials.

I noticed a lot better sound quality from the stock door speakers (BOSE system) after using the B-Quiet material as well as decreased road noise. It also helps the doors have a more solid sound when closing them instead of the "tin can" sound. ;)

It's really a win-win with this addition.

Mahjik, you make good points. I do remember reading in the Dynamat flyer thingy that it improves sound quality. Something I'll think about/consider in the LONG run lol (I'm pretty tapped out right now...)

It was a show car.:D Way too much power to have on the street. I have an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12 sitting right next to my computer waiting for a new home once my FD sells.

Once your FD sells???!! You're getting rid of your FD?! Why???!! Plz tell me you're getting another one...

I put it on sale last week or so. I am starting a new job soon and I can't possible drive an modified FD to it. I would rather sell it now while it is in good condition then have it sit in a garage and collect dust. I am moving on to a WRX or IS300.

What are you smoking man?! Let it sit and see how long you can bear to not drive it! lol

But I'll tell ya this...had I not come across the FD, the ONLY car I would have considered (and would have prob. bought) was a WRX. Too bad the '03 WRX doesn't come as an STI...(i don't like how the '04s look too much)
