dry carbon interior?
I just picked up my rx7 and in the process of redoing the whole interior. that old dull plastic just isnt cutting it for me....
I started wrapping all the plastic pieces in some dry carbon vinyl last week and I just love the way it came out... I was seeing if anyone else on here had there plastic pc's done in dry carbon vinyl? any pics?????????? I'm wonder how it would look like with everything in. here are some teasers of what i started. http://illmike.net/cf/me1.JPG http://illmike.net/cf/me2.JPG |

Looks good so far. Thinking about doing it myself since my interior pieces are all beat up.
I've been considering something similar myself. The dry look adds a nice dimension and texture to the surface. My main thing is I want to figure some really nice color scheme llike you would find in some of todays cars.
how does it hold up to UV???
that's awesome man. I was thinking of doing that myself. keep us posted.
Looking good; how hard is it to cut around the little holes, especially where the heater controls are? What's your method like?
its fairly easy once you get the hang of it...i used a heat gun on all the edges. it softens up the material and allows you to stretch/wrap it around tight corners.
Looks good!
Did you use a razor blade to cut the areas where the holes are?
where can i buy this stuff from?? Real 3M dry carbon sheets are pretty pricey!!!

....... Well i finished wrapping everything...the Gague Cluster and Passenger handles are suchhh a pain. but i got it to come out pretty clean. just took alot more time then expected. once the car is out of the shop ill update some pictures. Im currently in the process of having everything wrapped in Aclantara with red stitching. |
That looks so good, I got to get me some. Thanks for the idea and info.
finally my interior is done...my boy took a month to wrap everything in Alcantara (Dash, door panels, center con, etc...) everything was done in Red stitch as well...took awhile! but wow!! did he do a amazing job...the car has been siting at his shop for the past month so its just really dusty.
http://illmike.net/rx7/dash.JPG Only the dash is installed in this picture. Im currently in the process of respraying my whole car (inside and outside) going to dry ice all of the oem sound ded. and shave/paint everything for a cleaner look...didnt want to get over spray on all the other pieces so i left them off...only put on the dash so i can drive my car to the paint shop. but this gives you a idea of how my interior will look :) |
once the car is out of the paint shop. ill throw everything on so you guys can see how the dry carbon looks :)
very tight. While you have everything out I would highly recommend that you use Quiet Car sound dampening paint. You could paint over it but it would worth doing while you have everything out.
Nice!!! Can't wait to see it all together

ya. you're interior is going to look so fresh. I think you're stock steering wheel is going to detract from it all a bit once everything is finished
