Door Speaker Question...

I have a 1990 GXL....
I just replaced my rear 6.5" speakers with some nice aftermarket ones.
I also bought 2 8" subs and a 500 watt amp.
The amp i will be hooking up to my rear speakers and the 2 8" subs.
Now the speakers right now in my doors are there physically but are not working at all.
Before i go ripping apart the door panels and rewiring everything i was wondering if you guys could help me pick out a good set of aftermarket speakers that would fit in there nice. Nice meaning without modifications.
I'm not even sure what size are in there but i think they are 5 and 1/4"?

Thanks

i think they are 5's, my door speakers are the same, they're there but not working, so im jus gonna run the wire from my dash speakers to new aftermarket speakers in the doors...

you have 5.25 speakers in your door panel, with a 1" (3 hole) spacer behind it. last week i received a set of 6.5 component speakers that i thought would fit into the door, they dont. The magnet was too big. 6.5 coaxials might fit depending on the depth of the magnet. cannot be more than 2 3/8". 1 1/2" spacers will not work either, you wont be able to put the door panel back on. I've purchased a set of 5.25 components up for the front, but i'm still wondering where I'm gonna put the tweeters. I really dont want to cut into the door panel, but it looks like I have no choice. Anybody done this yet? (tweeters in panel) any pics, or thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Are you not going to power the fronts... I'm a bit confused by your post, or will you only be using the head unit to power the fronts? If that's the case you may want to reconsider your setup, power the fronts with the amp, the rears with the head unit to use as a fill, and power the subs with the amp.
