Complete Alarm/Remote Start Install Guide...Is there such a thing?
 

Been looking on here for hours and just cant get a complete write up or picture how to about anyone installing an alarm/key-less system with success in a 3rd gen FD!!!

My car is apart and im trying to gather as much info as I can, but other then a wire schematic from www.the12volt.com and some points here and there I am hesitant to proceed with my install...

Any help is appreciated!!!

I'll likely be creating a write-up when I do mine. IMOP a quality security system is one of the first mods of a sorted FD.

Have you installed an alarm before?

My best advice is wiring cleanliness, unit placement, and proper accessories. If you have specific questions, please PM me. I have done quite a few alarms and will help the best I can.

A good "How To" with suggestions on equipment and pictures of the install would be awesome!

Thanks XLR8, I have not done any installs, but rather some troubleshooting on alarms installed in other cars for friends and such, I am trying to install a Viper 5902, same as 5901 just with the new remote display and im trying to figure out which wires i will need and which to take out from the viper harnesses, also any one know of the access from DEI's directechs.com website, I want to get some info from them if it will help with the install of their product!!!

I had some alarm issue when I joined this board in 2003 and found nothing then. I don't recall seeing anything since.

Most aftermarket alarm circuitry will interact with CPU #2 so you should look at its circuitry in the wiring manual.

I would not go to the effort of a remote start install though. I had a remote start system on a car once but got bored with it in about two days. Like playing the piano with your dick, it is a neat trick but does not really get you very far.

Thanks man...yeah I have printed out 15pages for various components and have been researching things online and other forums, i am completely disconnecting CPU-2 theft systems and hooking all the sensors to the DEI system (Viper) I know what you mean about remote start, but i am also doing this for the Turbo timer feature...

I guess im on my own on this one...ill post results in a week...im hoping to be done then!!!

I would also look at the Body Electric Troubleshooting manual (which is in the stickies). It has some good information on the alarm system.

CPU #2 has some other control circuitry too (like hazards, turn signal flashers) so it cannot be removed completely.

It's a pain in the ass!

Hence why some people take it to the specialty places...some are looking to get info on shops familliar with RX-7s such as CPU2 picky connections and driver door lock motor install...

Some such as myself does not trust in the quality of work (mess) that goes into it, so I chose to study the diagram, the site above and after a month, learned myself and installed the system over one weekend...much better install, very stealth and neat!!! Oh and $0 labor cost!!! Saved about $600 in install costs with all the options and the feeling of do it yourself...well you know...PRICELESS!!! :-P

Well being that the link is dead kind of sucks, but personally I got the courage to do it myself after looking over other forums and they DIY by members and stumbled on the above link, that the site is down for...

Any alarm system should be able to integrate with the factory system wiring, provided I disabled the factory CPU2 and just used the factory triggers going into it via tapping and such...

I studied the factory wiring schematics and compared it to the wiring requirements of the alarm system I had, it really is not that difficult, you just need to learn about your car, I know if I was new I would not mess with it, but I have been around and am not scared of messing with wiring...

im new and not familiar at all with the electrical side of the car

i have a power fc, and no automatic unlocker, just a key

what route would you suggest i take? i have a rotary shop here, ill ask them if they can do it.

ive been reading about what brands that are good, ppl use clifford, python, viper, i want a good item for a good price, not great item for high, or poor item for really cheap, idk what to choose though?

DEI owns all the alarms you mentioned, so its all pretty much the same, just a marketing gimmic, I myself have the viper, but yeah rotary guys have the inside on who they know is familiar! The dealers have the same set price for alarms installed, and the buy your own alarm is always cheaper, but you cant get it installed at those shops, unless you can have someone do it on the side, but thats another risk!

The door actuator part I ordered a new RHD pass unit from japan on a group buy, its the best option for reliability! Normally a universal unit can be installed to lock/unlock the driver door!

is there any brand or item i should stay away from?

i find it helps to know what NOT to get when it comes to 7's, since there is so much you can get

Honestly I don't keep up with the reviews, and most are more for performance likes.

Simple search for unit you are interested in will get you plenty of feedback hopefully!

The 7 is not a complicated car, just needs someone familiar with how the factory unit is used and to bypass it is the best way to go!

The RHD (IN JAPAN) have right hand drive as the driver and passenger side is powered door lock solenoid and is the best unit to use for power locks at least when talking about FD's (requires importing from japan salvage or new dealer)
