ClearCorners.com --> HID Low Profile Kit? $3300!

93-02 Mazda FD RX-7 (Efini RX-7) — Low-Profile HID-spec Projector Headlights

Anybody know of any reviews on this and what makes it so special?

Isn't KnightSport similar to this?

Conversion includes:
- (2) 90mm HID-spec projector low-beam lights
- (2) 90mm Halogen-spec parabolic reflector high-beam lights
- Hardware and support brackets allow sturdy headlight mounting and proper optical alignment
- Linkage and stoppers for low-profile motorized lift kit
- Heavy-duty wiring harness uses hermetically sealed relays & connectors

Benefits:
- Significant increase in both, high and low-beam performance. Modern optics are superior to that of stock.
- Motorized headlights are fully functional - they lift and retract just like stock
- Installation is fully reversible with only minimal trimming to the headlight buckets. Easy to revert back to stock
- Lower profile headlights are aerodynamic and aesthetic, giving the RX-7 a more modern appearance

Legalities:
- Both kits meet DOT & SAE requirements and are fully street-legal for use in the US & Canada.

Installation:
- Price of headlight conversion includes installation costs
- Installation involves mounting, testing, optics alignment and road tests
- Headlight conversion takes several days. Installations must be scheduled in advance

Probably because their output volume is so low, they have to find a way to profit from just ONE sale.... Plus theres also the fact that THEY have to have your car for a few days for installation.
The only other thing that would make the cost even REASONABLE, is that this is one of very few companies, that actually meet regulations. So that could also be something thats added into the high cost.

Yes, this is a replica of the Knight Sports kit. I do believe they are discontinued, and even then, they are not $3000 if you can find a set. But they are not legal for the US market

the SBG HID kit for $800 is a better deal and theres absolutely NO trimming and is literally a plug and play/diy kit.

IIRC, the RE-A Sleek HID kit is something like $1600.

This kit is no more "aerodynamic" than the stock lights..... you still have a flat object pushing against a wall of air. Doesnt matter if its "low profile" or not.... looks like its only an inch or two lower than stock. Still doesnt stop the many FD's with stock pop-ups racing and winning against other cars at night. The "aero" aspect is quite minimal

I dont foresee anyone spending such an obscene amount of money for an HID kit when there are much cheaper and just as effective alternatives.
Especially when that money can go towards something that is WORTH spending such a large amount of money.... like a V-mount, small single kit, suspension, wheels, paint job, bucket seats, functioning A/C etc etc......

Clearcorners.com does a good job on lighting solutions, I've seen their complete work on a Supra's headlights and tails and its AMAZING and they're not annoying to other drivers at all unlike many other "budget" hid kits out there, but unless you've got that much money to throw around, there's no sense.

With all that said...... I would LOVE to take a vacation to Cali to visit my cousin, drop my car off at their shop, and throw a stack of money right in their face and yell....

There actually is trimming if I recall correctly to the SBG kit but it isnt any big deal. Their website even (used to?) shows this. It doesnt affect anything. You have to trim the bucket a little bit to allow the plug to fit but other than that it's plug and play. If you are a DIYer like I am, you can easily figure out what to buy and do the kit yourself. Saved about $300 or so but their kit is really nice and a proven product.

With that said, This kit looks like nothing more than a pop up version of the RE-A Sleek headlights. The lamps look really close together to try and fit two 90mm together also.

As far as SAE/DOT it's a plus because it makes them legal but - running illegal lights hasnt stopped anyone just like running an aftermarket air filter hasnt either. Technically, if anything on the car that is not factory or a factory option, is illegal. Aftermarket/Different wheels, suspension, seats, tint, body, engine, turbo, exhaust, etc. the list is endless. Not saying in any way don't do any of this, just pointing out people are going to do it regardless. Usually authorities are pretty leniant on things like this any ways...

These look really nice though, not knocking on the company or anyone that wants them.

It's funny you say that. I bought my kit from a DIYer. The parts of the kit were a bit different and even looked more OEM since there was almost no work done to them to get everything to fit. In my eyes, the performance was also different. I'll have to do a comparison sometime but I do like the SBG kit better. I'm not saying you can't build what SBG did. I'm just saying that if you are going to talk about savings, you should make sure you compare using the same parts or something that is proven to work as well or better. In retrospect, I wouldn't have minded spending the extra for the SBG kit. The SBG customer service is also awesome.

Well for one, according to the copy, it includes installation costs (i.e.: labor). And unlike stock conversions, uses four new lights, a new custom shroud, and whtever mods are necessary to reduce the pop-up height.

It's pricey for sure, but by the time you bought a new KS kit with HIDs (that may or may not be of the same quality) and paid a shop to do the install, you probably wouldn't fair much better.

look hard enough and you will always find overpriced parts/work.

thing about it is it allows those shops to spend much more time to make sure everything is perfect. some people want perfect, some people do it themselves, some people have too much cash and just want someone else to do it.

and sometimes you wind up paying way too much for junk. for the price i hope it comes with a true lifetime warranty.

As far as I know I used the same Projector housing and shroud as SBG as well as the same clear light housing and even the same watt ballast. I'm not trying to get into any debate about SBG products because I know they have nice stuff and people like them. All I meant was if you have the know how and the proper tools/materials there is no reason you couldn't do something like what they offer yourself.

I think SBG's lights are nicer and more user friendly than this kit appears to be, just my opinion.

:) Appreciated! Different strokes for different folks I guess. If I was paying 3300 I'd at least want HID low and high beams.

We always encourage the DIY route for those looking to save some stacks. But our kit does have a few little tricks that some people may not realize ;)

The main part that I like about this kit is that it has Legitimate DOT/SAE certification.

But with a "selling point" such as that.... where are they stamping these on?
Since every legal headlight and tail has DOT/SAE markings on them.

Being that they are in California, and offer aftermarket lighting solutions, this is something I'd have to look for before dropping that kind of money.

To this day, I regret selling my spot in the SBG GB for batch #2....... being financially constrained sucks at this point

From the pics it looks like they are using Hella modules for the lights. That is what makes them DOT legal. No glass in front means the DOT cert is good.

If you like the sleepy eye popup look, then go for this:

A GB is in the works. It's based on my one-off design and I love the light output.
