big ass alum wings, gay, no?
I agree w/ your JDM part except for some things... i.e. the 99spec rx-7 does look fantastic... I like it for its looks, not because its JDM... JDM hondas mostly i don't like because they are slightly different in style but a little wierder looking

Remember this topic started out as big aluminum wings. No car looks good with those - except maybe Mexicanish (no racial slur intended... but cant help it) ricers like CRX's and such!
Most cars, when you take the spoiler off, look better! Look at the new eclipses, for example.
RX7's look fine either way in my opinion (FD's anyway).
Bottom line: You can't argue that "big *** alum wings" aren't gay, but you could argue either way for SMALL wings on SOME cars. No ricers need them!

I actually drive a civic (99 si), and think alum wings are the gay'est mods in the world. As for downforce needed, I raced a prelude down the freeway doing close to 125mph (call me crazy) and didn't feel the need to put on a cheap alum wing. I like the super stock wing on the Pettit website for the FD3.
Alu wings represent bad economi. But carbon wings are cool.
Like this GP Sports wing. It's not carbon all the way but it's cool and as you can se it bends at high speeds and that's cool too.

Ok....i can deal w/ the "aluminum wing = gay but CF = not gay"...
And in line w/ what I was saying before regarding downforce generated at serious speeds, I wanted to share the following:
"In the back, the rear end tapers in a boattail fashion, another Crossfire cue, beneath the rear spoiler. That active airfoil automatically deploys 4 in. rearward and kicks up slightly to generate 725 lb. of downforce at maximum speed"
~Surprise Supercar, pg. 61, Road & Track, March 2004 edition
Note: "Surprise Supercar" is an article about Chrysler's ME Four-Twelve Supercar, and the "maximum speed" they're talking about is 240mph.
Now I don't know how accurate that number is for downforce generated, and taking into consideration the downforce decreases as the speed decreases, I'll say this: I don't care HOW gay ppl think my spoiler looks...if its functional, and I actually use it, that's all that matters. (Well..not entirely...I'm all about asthetically beautiful and fully functional...lol)
Obviously, this guy in the yellow FD below is pushing the gayest FD ever known, since he's not only got a HUGE spoiler, but it's as high as his roof... (sarcasm)

Don't get me wrong on the whole wing thing. I just don't like most alum wings. I most definitely don't like the "Whale tails". Check this "www.laughatrice.com".
I do like the carbon fiber wing on certain cars (4 ex. the
FD3).

But I would DIE for that car, and the spoiler on it. But then again, I'd prob. die IN that car while trying to see just how much downforce it would give me at Mach 3... LOL

I just have a real issue w/ ppl who love to make broad sweeping generalizations, esp. ones that make no sense, like all larger-than-stock wings are gay, or all sorts of functional things on your FD are rice, just cuz ricers imitate *us* by putting it on their cars, but theirs are non-functional lol...(i think someone's a lil messed up on what rice is...)

you know how shops have signs that read "we reserve the right to refuse service" or somethin along those lines?
well if i worked at a shop, id have a sign that said "we reserve the right to refuse service on anything that may be a hazard to public asthetics and beauty" lol
but you know...i think I can top you. i didn't put it on, but the other day I saw the brand new body style camry w/ a HUGE double decker...OMG that was bad. real bad.

Just wondering what people think of this wing. Its the RE Amemiya GT II carbon fiber wing. It would be going on a black FD with the wise sports body kit and painted black because carbon fiber is a lighter shade than the car and i want everything to match perfect. Suggestions for other wings are welcome

You gotta have the body of the car finished (or help us out and post a pic of an FD w/ the body kit you're talking about) so that way you can actually see whether the wing would match the rest of the car, you know?
Lots of wings are great per say, but they might not flow w/ the rest of the car (they may make the car look too busy, or even be a weakspot on the car by not being up to par w/ the rest of the body)
That's just my opinion...cuz I see it as a whole package.
BTW..i believe the wing you just posted is the same one on the orange FD in my post (which I've now come to realize looks similar to, but is NOT the same one in the yellow FD)

I think it can prove to be very detrimental to the beauty and flow of your car by shopping for a wing alone...ie does this wing look good...

Ok heres a pic of a black FD with the kit im talking about.

Blue FD with the kit
The car would also most likely have the mirrors on the black FD, mazdaspeed vented hood , and the RE Amemiya sleek headlight kit. I hope this helps.

Redneck's 2 Cents
Ok I know I'm a redneck for mentioning this but....remember nascar? They do what? Over 200 Mph I'm Pretty sure, and all they have is a Lip Spoiler, they make turns at fast speeds, and also race on road courses (which I found not 2 many people know of) if wings actually help....why isnt nascar using them? They have Millions of dollors in research on aerodynamics so I dunno you tell me.

It prob has to do w/ the whole *stock* part of it haha
besides....have you seen how often those cars lose traction and spin around and what not? It's a mess...
The other thing is, goin around an oval track w/ 30 foot high banked turns really helps control the car. Try goin around an unbanked curve w/o enough downforce at half the speeds that they do...
