anyone have a diffuser?

i like the look of the carbon diffusers, but all of the pics look ricey to me...anyone have one on their personal FD? black preferrably :)

I was wondering the same thing. I saw one guy a while ago with one but I dont know who or where to find it. Personally, i love the looks of them. I'm thinking about getting the rotary extreme one.

Here is a link to pics and some information on it. Also if you go to www.rotaryextreme.com , there is also a pic with a black FD with the rear diffusior as well.

Here is on from JTs car

my friend tony D has the old RE unit on his Red R2 with a black r1 rear wing. It sounds kind of strange, but it looks amazing. I'll try to dig up some pics.

kinda dark pix, but..

This is an authentic RE Amemiya "old style" diffuser on my otherwise mostly-kind-of-sort-of-almost stock looking Silver FD.

No problems scaping the ground at all even with a lowered PFS suspension. It had to be trimmed underneath a little to accomodate the Dual N1 exhaust. The first track test is coming up.

Is that the "new style" ReA diffuser?
Whats the cheapest kind? $$$ wise

Shinobi-X 02-07-03 10:04 AM

I will definately be getting a rear diffuser, as I don't really like spoilers. I think it just gives the car a better look.

That's the "old style" RE diffuser that I have as well (picure above). It was $650ish last year.

I think the "cheapest" one out there is Chuck's replica of the "new style" RE diffuser Pro which is $550 according to his website: http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rediffuser.html

I like the old style better on a car like mine with no bodykit, but if your FD has a kit the new style would probably match it better. Just a guess. The old style is very subtle and if you didn't know better you would think the car came like that. (like the diffuser on the Modena and new Viper)

Coulthard Fan,
Was there much trimming required? I also have a dual n1.
I'm thinking of purchasing the same one, but getting a copy made in carbon fiber.
Also, do you have any more pics of it from different angles possibly?
Thanks

Not much trimming required at all, only on the inboard side of the muffler canisters IIRC (Mr. Spoiler in Manassas VA did the install). I'll attach another pix - warning, I had to change the contrast so you could see the black diffuser in my relatively dark parking garage. I can email you the full size original pix if you want.

p.s. you must park your car for what, 6 months a year? I was in Calgary (skiing in Banff http://www.banfflakelouise.com/) last weekend and all I saw was snow everywhere!

SpiritR 02-08-03 04:21 AM

JT was doing a GB on the other forum. I dont know the price but it was really cheap compared to the normal price

RecKleSs 02-08-03 08:51 AM

I don't like the new RE's style diffuser. I think the old style looks so much better. Here is a link to most of the rear diffusers for an FD.

SpiritR 02-09-03 04:25 AM

The only bad part is the

OLD Re Diffuser only comes in FRP

The PRO comes in FRP or Carbon Fiber

suganuma 02-09-03 08:56 PM

i notice most of these designs have changed to a smoother design with one large dip instead of the "fin" style design that the "old" RE one uses...

is there some reason for this?? maybe someone with more aero engineering experience than me can chime in?? just wondering if one of these pictured designs should WORK better than the others....even if it may not look as good.

TIA,

-Nic

Coulthard Fan,
thanks for the pic. If you have bigger ones, or more send em to minakabani@shaw.ca.

As for calgary weather, ya its pretty crappy during winter, but its weird. We've had a few days here and there where its like 15-20 C in the middle of an otherwise freezing cold (-25 C) week.
I usually drive the car from late april till late october. So you're pretty close.

As for banff, eventhough its only about 80km from calgary, it does tend to get alot more snow than us (being buried in the mountains and all)
