Amp wiring and Door Speaker wiring ...

So I bought a new deck and a couple of door speakers for my '90 GXL because I noticed the door speakers were shot. After disassembling the doors, lo and behold, there were already aftermarket speakers in there!

Turns out whoever did the installation did a shit job and the wiring is all gummed up. The dash speakers work (left and right) but neither of the door speakers are getting juice. The speakers themselves work.

Anyone ever get this problem? I inspected all connections and wires (visible ones at least) and everything seems ok. If I bridge the dash speaker lines directly to the wiring harness that connects to the doors, i get sound, so the problem is somewhere before the door, but after the dash speakers.

Also, I think I found the amp under the drivers side dash. I could have sworn it was supposed to be under the passenger side kick panel? Anyways.. this could be part of the problem and im just wondering how to rewire it.. theres a bunch of crap going in, and a bunch going out.. does anyone have the pin outs for this amp?

I appreciate any help I can get on this one. Ive spent hours tinkering with crusty ass wires in the freezing cold and Im fed up.

just run wires directly from the back of the speaker, to the back of the deck. viola, done.
you can bypass the factory amp, factory wiring or whatever else. you want so save time, money, and hastle, then just take some speaker wire from wherever, and use the factory door grommet (its a bitch to get anything through there)
what i did was cut out the dash speakers, and use that plug, hell, i was even able to use the factory speaker plugs in the door.

peace

I was thinking of running new wires but it looked like it was going to be a bitch, and I didnt want to go buy more wire, so I poked around with the amp and discovered a little secret (duh)

Turns out you can directly bypass the factory amp on S5 models under the dash by litterally unplugging one wire and plugging it into the other. Let that be a lesson for all of those who want to install new speakers!

yup. exactly what i did. good job.

When I put an aftermarket head unit in my '89T2 many years ago, I had to bypass the factory amp to get the door speakers to work. No wire cutting or splicing was necessary though; the factory door speakers are actually subwoofers (crappy subs, but whatever...) and the subwoofer amp you need to bypass is a small silver box located under the dash on the passenger side, near the passenger side dash speaker. This amp will have 2 connectors - one of these is a male connector at the end of a short cable that comes from the amp, and the other is a female receptacle on the amp case itself that a factory harness cable plugs into. Disconnect those two plugs from the amp and now connect them together (i.e., harness plug to harness receptacle). This bypasses the amp, so unless something else was messed up in your wiring, you should have full range sound coming from your door speakers. FYI, when I did mine, I used the plug & play connector kit that came with the head unit I purchased from Crutchfield; so I didn't have to splice or mess with any of the factory wiring - it really was "plug & play" once I found out that factory subwoofer amp needed to go.

Saw the plug... Yanked amp out.... Door speakers are now functional.... I had the "new and improved" cassete deck with cd player and surround option. Colors were slightly different for my wiring set up... If you have this set up.... Then again im talking about a 1989 Rx7 convertible... I will post the link to the radio and wiring manual to help identify some cables.... They detail the harness then you have to match and figure out the colors yourself.
