Alpine alarm question *pic*

Dont know if this is the right section but i figure i give it a shot.

I recently too my car to a shop, when i got it back they told me they took out my alarm, ok no biggie, i didnt really use it.

But i noticed my windows have stopped working, i knew this when i picked up my car but never really put the 2 and 2 together.

Just a couple of days ago, i was fooling around with this piece from my alarm they took off and i was inspecting it, reading what the schematics said. It was for the window.

So im like shit, windows dont work + this device controlling windows = why my windows dont work??? lol

Do you guys think this is why the windows dont work? Here is the pic of the piece they took out.

yes, it looks like a window roll up module. it usually installed to automatically roll up the windows about 30 seconds after you turn off the car.

Whatever it is, it isn't an Alpine component?

Well i have an alpine alarm so this has to be alpine. Plus i looked up the model number.

Yeah im almost certain this is the cause for my windows not working. Now i gotta find where the hell they took this out from. I hope its by the fuses by the pedals, otherwise ill be playing wheres waldo.

1QWIK7 11-25-06 04:01 PM

Well i tried looking for it and i couldnt find it.

I didnt really LOOK LOOK but i spent a good 20 minutes looking in the bay, then by the pedals and i couldnt find anything that accepts this piece.

Does anyone have this type of alarm on their FD and if so, where would this normally be??

What did they install and why would they disable the alarm without asking you first? Sounds pretty sketchy to me. If you know these guys and trust them, then fine, but if not go to somebody you trust. Almost sounds like their setting you up to steal your car. But thats just my thoughts- I can get a little paranoid about people touching my stuff- especially if its my RX-7:)

Shit i dont know lol

Nah i been to this shop a couple of times, i didnt even question why they took off the alarm to be honest. At the time i didnt care when they told me cause i was thinking, i dont even use the alarm.

But now i know that this is the reason why my windows not working, so now i need to put this back.

I absolutely have seen shops install new audio in a car and 48 hours later the new equipment ends up stolen. They know where you live and are experts at "uninstalling" as well. I am not saying this is the case with your situation, but I know some installers to be among the shadiest people I know (in my area).

Pull the door off and check out the switches. The module for the window roll-up goes to the switches in the door more often than not, since it's easier to access in most cases. Usually when an alarm is uninstalled, the wires are usually cut and taped or left in the harness for the part. I've installed alarms in cars that still have the harness from an existing alarm tucked under the dash (which makes the install super fast).

Nah it has nothing to do with that i dont think.

Its this module that was pulled off. Its connected to something obviously, im basically looking for an answer on where this might be located. There is a smaller version of this module right under the dash by the steering wheel location but thats for sound, i dont know where this one goes to. Maybe in the bay??? I doubt it though.

Any more input would be appreciated. Im still gonna search though, its damn cold outside haha

take your car back to the shop and have them fix it for free. They messed it up, they should fix it.

Honestly, i dont even want to go back there. Its far, i have a busy schedule and this is an easy job. I just need to know WHERE it goes, then all it takes is 2 seconds to plug it back in. Not like i have to do any wiring or anything.

Idk, cant believe no one has an alarm like this they can help me out with :(

John64 12-05-06 10:50 AM

Even if someone has an alarm module like that, you probably have no idea where it goes as each installer will place them where they see fit. Have yopu checked you switches and or fuses to make sure that they are not your issue?

Switches and fuses are good.

It cant be coincidence that both my window switches shitted on me. Its this damn module that prob put a lock on my windows.

I NEED to know where this goes lol

John64 12-05-06 06:51 PM

If you need to know, then you know where to go. The people that took it out! A quick call and you would have your answer. If not just trace the power window wires back an d you will find it! Spend and couple of hours and learn your car, it's been a week since your first post, if it was that important you would have done this already instead of waiting for someone to give you an answer they can't.

I figured someone who had the same exact alarm as me would know right away. Im not expecting someone to do my homework.

And you live in the northeast, its not exactly florida weather right now to be spending hours outside looking for wires and shit :D

Sprockett 12-06-06 12:25 AM

you don't understand...even if someone did have the exact same alarm in the exact same type of vehicle, there is still a chance that the modules would be mounted in different places...that's up to the people who install the system in the first place. Call the shop and have them help figure it out...like I said before, they screwed it up, so they should fix it

John64 12-06-06 10:18 AM

Ok, well I went over you post again. Your hoping that someone with the same alarm as you could help. Well you never even posted what type of alarm you have. And to your other comment, I lived in Florida until I wen to school in CT, so I know how hot (Ft Lauderdale) can be. It's only in the 70's and 80's now anyway!

I called, and they said they cant remember, this was 2 months ago btw. They said to bring the car in so they can put it back.

Theres no way im going 20 miles back there for that. I guess ill have to wait til a decent weather day and spend time to look for it.

1QWIK7 12-12-06 12:16 PM

Ok i found it!!!!!

It was so weird cause 4 days ago, i actually had a dream about this, i swear to god!

I had a dream that it was as simple as taking the module and plugging it to a visible connector and it would work. Only in my dream, the visible connector was where the din pocket was. I didnt have a radio, it was just top open space, then bottom connector. I plugged the module and the windows worked. I was happy for that dream lol.

Anyway onto today. I drove the car around like 2 miles just to get things flowing since i dont have insurance on it anymore, i dont wanna risk any accident so i drove around til it to operating temps. Since its winter time, that didnt happen. After the 2 mile cruise, i get back to my house and it was only 150F. So i let the car idle til i see 180f. So with me sitting sideways in the drivers seat, with my door open and my feet resting on the pavement. I look towards the kick panel section. Since i dont have kick panels on my car, everything was visible. I saw a white rectangular connector and i was like hmmm wait a minute. I went in the glove box and took out that module and i saw it has a female connector to accept this. IM like YES!!!

So i plugged it and tried my windows and they worked!!!!!!!!(*#($*#(*$(#*

Ahh im soo happy. I cant believe my dream gave me a sign, sometimes it could be soo obvious, and you wont even see it.

Sorry for the story, i just feel excited cause i cant believe i had a dream about this a couple of days ago and today, its like im reacting my dream except its reality. LOL its amazing. :D

magus2222 12-12-06 04:28 PM

thats happened to me a couple of times, specially when dealing with wiring. great job, i would still kick someone in the ahole until they told me why they disconnected it. i agree what that dude about not letting ANYONE besides me touch my FC or Z.

peace

1QWIK7 12-13-06 02:51 PM

Well i didnt really care at the time cause i didnt know the problem was associated with it, otherwise i woulda questioned them.

O well, im happy it works now.

Thanks all

John64 12-14-06 03:53 PM

Good job! Imagine if you would have taken 10 minutes to actually look under there and not wait for us to give you an answer.

I know, thats the problem i have with cars.

I can fix the shit but diagnosing problems, i HATE.

I have to learn to research and figure shit on my own before i start asking for help. :)
