For all those that dislike the stock FD antenna

So don't know if this has been posted before...but I found a small antenna for the FD on yahoo auctions.

I think its a nice replacement to the RC style antenna found on our cars...

What do you guys think?

Anyone with knowledge of Japanese please give more info...

Maybe we could do a group buy if more people are interested?

Maybe good if your in Zagreb, maybe not so good if your in Omis or Umag.

Spalato 06-15-14 04:47 AM

lol...ok squalor, that was random :D

So I guess no one except me thinks this lil antenna is cool...

squalor 06-15-14 11:33 AM

I do think it's cool and I'm sure others do too. Much lighter than the motorized stocker and it looks great. If you live close to your favorite station it might even be better than stock at eliminating cross talk. I live in the boonies, small town like Omis, Croatia and some distance from my favorite station. I live in Foley, Al. in US and my fav station is 92Wzew. I can pick it up much better in my FD than in my Focus Daily Driver because of the length of the antenna and the Alpine HU. For people that listen to MP3 or CD only it's the finest antenna I've ever seen.

lol...ok squalor, that was random
I saw you were from Croatia so I picked those towns from a map. What's it like in Croatia, is it a place I would have fun at ? How much did this antenna cost ?

Spalato 06-15-14 12:11 PM

ok now its makes sense...I wasn't sure what you were talking about :D

I didn't buy it yet, on the site it says 11,800 Japanese yen which is $115...which is waaay to much...but I really dislike my stock antenna. I guess I'll try to find a cheaper solution...

I don't listen to the radio much, so I wouldn't be concerned about it not working properly...here is the google translation:

"RX7 FD3S short helical antenna KIT. Remove the antenna portion of pure electric antenna, It is a kit to install a short antenna. Liable to be diversion etc., You can be a gap between the antenna pedestal, Mounting angles and the like so that they are not unnatural,
Specially designed spacer is attached. The antenna, I have adopted the high sensitivity short helical antenna. Sensitivity (AM in particular) to slightly less than genuine Kit Contents Only short helical antenna (carbon type) Mounting adapters, and other Fitting equation (1) Brief description is attached. 510 yen shipping anywhere in Japan"

Croatia is great man, you would def have fun. People are nice and its very safe, great beaches and crystal clear sea, great food etc...

I was also not happy with the stock antenna. I have tried almost all hidden antennas but nothing worked for me. The stock antenna had best reception.

I was looking into an S2000 antenna and I found this small conversion kit on yahoo auctions. It was around 1500 yen for this piece.
TOTAL7|RX-7???????????????????

It slides in the original antenna after you remove the mast. You just need a washer to hold that piece in place. After that I went to a local honda dealer and ordered the S2000 antenna.

I have perfect crystal clear reception equal to my stock antenna. And it looks better.

Great info Cartels, thanks for the link. Good to hear you have good reception, and it looks great too!

BLACK MAMBA 06-19-14 05:34 AM

I made my own with the assembly from a early 90 626.

Ceylon 06-19-14 08:02 AM

Do the US FD's have two aerials like the ones over here?

On my car the top portion of the rear screen is an aerial, so I just use that and have welded up the hole in the rear quarter panel.

What do you mean by two aerials? I have a US FD so I can take a look

LuvingMy93FD 07-30-14 12:10 AM

Nice option, I hated the big giant antenna so much I just stopped listening to the radio lol. This is a good option I think if you can find it under 30 bucks.

04G35S 07-30-14 08:55 AM

I unplugged mine and just leave it down. I rarely listen to the radio or music at all in this car. But these shortie antennas look great!

scruggyj 09-18-14 08:31 PM

I just changed out my head unit on my 93 fd. I plugged the antenna coaxial cable up but did not use the blue wire to power the antenna up and down. I still get reception with it down. Plus the radio will not be what I listen to most of the time anyway.

Diversity antenna ? Yea and my FD had the non-bose. I have two co-ax lines under the dash but the one for the glass antenna is smaller than standard size so I don't use it right now.

I'll take it one further. I hooked up an aftermarket head unit and instead of leaving it unhooked I bought an additional foglight switch for the ash tray area, installed it in the middle, and wired the blue wire with that inline. When i do turn on the radio the antenna stays down. Driving around in the city I have good enough reception. When I leave the city though reception goes out the window. So then I hit that little extra fog light switch and up comes my antenna. (So long as the radio is on) I effectively took manual control of whether I want it up or not.

I actually went with one of those really small universal antenna's that you just stick to the inside of your windshield for signal, like this one:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/bonanzleima...05/39/__57.jpg

I have it mounted right behind my rear-view mirror, at the very top of the windshield. Reception is good.

Slideways FD 10-28-14 03:41 PM

i've been running that universal one for years too. I have mine stuck to the side of my sub box.

rxbaby7 10-28-14 05:12 PM

Where did you guys get that antenna

Slideways FD 10-28-14 08:03 PM

i got mine locally at a stereo shop but you can find them online for pretty cheap.
