3rd gen antennae leads

As this thread here:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ht=3rd+antenna

says, the 3rd gen has two antennae leads, making it a hassle for aftermarket iinstallation. After talking to a guy at CarToys, he recommended just going to Radio Shack to find a double male plug.

Radio Shack (or the one near me) has been clearing out their car stereo parts, so they don't have what I need.

Any other ideas???

If I remember my install, the wire with the 2 plugs came off alittle farther down to reveal 1 standard motorola plug.

double check your antenna wire

In other words, follow it a bit to see where it goes?

You can't mean the back of the OEM base unit, because that goes directly to a connection with 2 wires going in the head unit.

yes,

mine was (non-bose factory tape deck..93' fd)

just trace ant wire back into dash you should come to a single standard connector.

I saw what Garfinkle did, the two plugs are different sizes. He unpluged the two from the head unit , a very small plug . He cut the wire and sheld off the plug and spliced them to the proper type plug for his radio. One antenna is in the rear hatch area, the other is as you know in the rear glass, works good.

duboisr, let me see if I get this right.

Remove the 2 plugs (& wires) from the oem unit. Plug them into the existing antennae leads.

Now splice them into a standard plug so they will fit into the back of the new deck? Thus you have the radio pulling from both antennaes?

Seabass, I found where I think they meet, there is a white plastic retainer, bolted onto the transmission hump, passenger side, under the little removable plastic trim piece. As it is under the carpet, I cannot follow it down at all, without removing or loosening the carpet. What I have is the 2 wires, wrapped together with electrical tape.

o.k. went out to the car to have a look.

the 2 wires wrapped in tape plugged into 1 round FEMALE motorola plug. so you will need a wire with a MALE motorola plug on each end.

if radioshack doesn't have it premade anymore they sell the plugs and wire to make one.

(Catalog Number: 274-709 Solderless Morotola-type plug need 2 and some antenna wire).

this sounds like what the CarToys guy was saying

good luck

what color is the antenna wire. which wire is the black thicker wire

PVerdieck 11-25-02 07:51 PM

I bought a Y, with 1 male, 2 females. Cut the ones from the back of the OEM unit, and spliced them in. Works fine.
