2 tone paint question ?
Hey Ive searched the forum for this but i cant find it.
Is it posible to have a Black FD that changed to silver at diferent angles when you move around it. Like the FD in this pic I attached......just like that but with Black and silver where the purple appears. |
anything is possiable u just need to talk to the panelbeaters and see if they can make it up, coz the guys next my work can do that! they can make some cool colours up!
|
wicked.....cas id like to do that and then have them throw it away so no one eles can have it
Thanks DJ |
ain't that easy... sorry to say, chameleon style colors can't just be "mixed up" the pigments are too complicated and are unlike those in normal paints. If it isn't manufactured, you can't get it(unless you know god)
I admit that it would look sick, you might be able to get a similar effect usind an overcoat of house of color's new ice pearls (not sure if they make a silver or not, you should check that), but it'll never be exactly the same. |
that paint is also like 500 bucks a quart, imagine what it would cost to "have it mixed up"
|
and imagine you get rearended, or need something painted to match...talk about "might as well get another new paintjob, cos it wont match either way. hehe trying to paint the new spoiler you bought gonna suck.

Any metallic paint will slightly look silver from angles.
The paint has microscopic pieces of real metal in the paint, and they capture light and sparkle a silver color. Although it is not really changing to silver, it does give a silver look to black. Maybe a black pearl would make black look silver? I dont know your best bet would be talking to a good bodyshop and be firm on what YOU want... |
Black to silver will be very hard to do. You can try using pearls, but too little will have no effect and to much will change the black. How do I know? I tried it using pearls in the clear. By the time I got the silver to flash the black resembled a brownish color. It is much easier to flash colors that closer to each other.
|
Ok thanks guys.......besides if someone rearends me he has to pay for it dosent he....well his ensurance has to pay anyway.
ill shop around for a good body shop....nothing is imposible...o and by the way i know GOD. thanks again fellas. |
Isn't that that AARotary guys car?

AYE?????
That sounds like a sweet idea Eagletsi. Thanks mate. Cas down here in NZ we have some fellas who could probably cook up my black silver idea. O and candy black is an option....I ve seen it now. |
glad u know GOD! maybe it'll make things easier:D . anyway, perhaps black with graphite pearl would do the trick. I can't wait to see how this turns out, should be sweet if it works!
and a sidenote... I know it was chromillusion... just had a brain fart at the time. and I was speaking about his post-"black to silver" would imply a two color change, therefore fitting the criteria of a chameleon paint... no hard feelings... just defendin myself;) |
This is probably a stupid question but......... I recently got my car painted Evolution gold. I was wondering if I could now get it sanded back a bit and make it look kinda like the car in the pics.
Wish I put more thought into it when i was choosing a colour. |
the MR2 in those pics is a candy gold by house of kolor.
Its a 6 layer paint job. If youve heard of the movie High Octan 2 you might know what Im talkin about. In that movie they spray that car. |
Originally posted by JadedX god damn its not CHAMELEON that paint in the pic is chrome illusion chameleon is only two colors it is probly a 6 or 5 sided pearl, its called blazzberry chrome illusion will cost u 7,000 or 8,000 for the whole car DuPont ChromaLusion (not "chrome illusion") is just one of the manufacturers of color-shifting paints. Every paint manufacturer has their own line now, from Sherwin Williams "MultiTones" to House of Kolor's "Kameleon Kolors", to BASF's "Extreme Rainbow" colors. They are all commonly referred to as "chameleon" colors because of the color shift at different viewing angles. All do the same thing, regardless of brand, so there's no difference if you buy the color from Sherwin Williams or DuPont or House of Kolor, as long as the color range is the same. All are priced approximately the same, with the average being about $250 per pint. The upside is that the color is mixed with reducer 1:1 to make a sprayable quart. The downside is that they cover very poorly, requiring 4-5+ coats of color to make sure that the base color (usually black) doesn't show through. Previously, gray was used by DuPont as a base coat, but it produced a milky gray sidetone at some viewing angles, especially in direct sunlight, since you were seeing the gray basecoat through the color coat. The cost per pint and the poor coverage are why chameleon paint jobs are generally very expensive. Unfortunately, ICE_Pilot, no one makes a black that changes to another color. Your only option with black is add a course metallic or a mica tint to give it a silvery tint or sidetone in the color you're looking for when viewed from some angles. That is AArotary's RX-7, by the way, with a new R-Magic wide body kit and HRE wheels. |
OK Jimlab. Thanks for all the info mate.
Im going to take Candy Black insted. Like the MR2 I posted here, just black. Should be realy sick. But I still would like a silver streek in there some where so may be I could work something out. Well see when the time comes. |
that rx7 is painted with a paint by DuPont called chromalusion
http://www.angelfire.com/biz/fapco/chromalusion.htm i'm sure if you do a google search you can find out even more info. you can't do a silver black in similar fashion, although it would look sharp. |
