19" wheels on FD?
 

okay i searched, and all the threads I found had the pics deleted/missing.

i am trying to decide if 19s would look to big on my FD. I am thinking of changing wheels, and the wheels I want only come in 19 (in the widths/offsets I need). Please, post up some pics, preferably 5 spoke with a lip, but I will take anything.

I bought 19" rims for my FD. I wouldn't recommend using them for anything other than cruising. I have 18" wheels for track and spirited driving. Just something to consider.

The majority of people on here (me included) will tell you to stay away from 19s on an FD. You can do it, but the tire profiles get so thin at that point that there are no performance gains, and you run the risk of bending the rims very easily because the tires are set up so thin. IMO it also looks a little cartoon-ish, but there are more than a handful of people that run 19s on here... I'd suggest you find some 18s in a similar style. What wheels are you looking at?

yea, i have 18s on there now, and planned on keeping them for anything other than cruising. i guess the problem i am running into is all the wheels i like are 19"

this whole gigantic wheel thing has gotten out of hand. not everyone wants to be straight out of DUB magazine.

The more I think about it, the more I think I will be patient and find some 18s I like. Requirements are that they have a deep polished lip in the back (2.5-3"), 9" fronts 10" rears, and preferably 5 or 6 spoke. Any suggestions.

19" wheels + stock brakes = bad looking

19s are too limiting of tire choice.

Call Rishie at AutoRnd and ask him about the 2 piece (not 3 piece) Work Meisters. They are a nice chunky 5 spoke, and the 2 piece model allows a larger lip front and rear than the 3 piece, and you can get them in any color with a polished lip. Rishie can give you the lip widths, especially if you don't plan on running a big brake kit with the wheels you can get away with even more lip (because you can choose deeper face disks).

the FD however just isn't really set up for huge lips like a lot of the other cars you see (350z, 240's, etc). Our stock +50 offset and tight body panels really limits your "lippage" unless you cut/replace your fenders and go widebody.

Personally i wouldn't put 19's on mine. There are lots of choices for 18's which will fit better anyway.

19's look good as long as theirs a nice size lip, like rynberg said you are very limited to tire sizes. I should have some pics of my 19" advan sienna generation II wheels in about a month.

I think if you have coilovers and a body kit 19s look awsome. I have pics posted on the forum.

19s are perfect on the back. They rub really bad on all the turns in the front. i have 35r19 245 wide nitto tires. i wouldnt recommend using them in the front, but the back can take them. go with 19 in the back and 18s in the front.

just get wide front fenders and 255/30/19's for the front

Your 245/35/19s are almost 1" larger in diameter than the stock size, so you probably will have problems.

A 245/30 or 255/30/19 is the same or near same to the stock diameter. Of course, the sidewalls are pretty thin in these sizes.

^^^ thats why i didnt buy the 30s, because of the sidewalls.

Guess you should have bought 18s then!

well. i will be keeping my old 18s and use them as track tires. not overly worried about street performance. though i think i have found some 18" alternatives for the new set.

i have coilovers(prob like most people) and will be dropping a Sanai Kit on it, later this year. that is one of the reasons i thought it might be okay to roll 19" i dont think i would even contemplate it on a stock FD body.

What are the widest 18's you can fit out back?

^^^i know you can go with 10s pretty easily out back(i am running 9.5'' right now, but will def bump to 10" with this new set). i have even seen a few go to 11, but am not sure how they got them to fit.

Without a lot of messing around.....

18x10 with 285/30 tires. Offset should be in the +45 to +50 range. (You can go down to +40 or so with a slight roll.) Depending on the offset and particular wheel, aftermarket trailing arms may be required.

I have 19's, with 275/30 rears, and they fit fine, but I also have coilovers and rolled guards. They never scrub or anything. I have the same suspension set up as when I had 17's, so the car sits a little higher than it used to, but on the upside I don't have to worry about hitting speed bumps so much. I think they look good, and the ride is okay, but then I have not tracked my car, so...
