Deleting posts.
I've been on a lot of different forums and I can't seem to find out how to delete posts here... It's actually getting frustrating because sometimes I prefer to just make a new post if I forgot pictures or something then delete the old post with mistakes rather than edit.

You can't delete on here. You can edit your posts if it has been less than 30 minutes since posting. After that, you can't edit either.
If you need something modified, you can PM a moderator of that section. You could also PM any SuperMods (like myself) as we can edit in any section. The other option is to use the report post icon (the triangle with the '!' under each post). This will send an email to all moderators of that section to alert them of an issue. Kent |
Well that's somewhat stupid. But at least I know now so I will edit posts instead of making a new one then deleting like I used to.

You may think so, but it has been like this forever and it works just fine. It is good that it is this way, especially in the classifieds, as users can't change the description of an item after it was sold (in cases where something goes wrong with the sale).
If you make a mistake in your post (such as broken links to pics), you will usually see those issues right away and can fix them. If the time has expired, you can alway add the new information in a reply to the thread (maybe you forgot to include something when describing an issue you are having with your car, etc.). Personally, I like the limited time for editing. I hate reading on other sites where someone edited their post days/weeks/months later and maybe you miss the update as you didn't notice that the post had been edited. This makes it difficult troubleshooting (over a period of time)as maybe you didn't see all of the information. It is very rare for threads to need to be deleted (because the OP messed something up) or need to be edited by a mod. Usually it will be to remove a double-post, a request by a user to remove personal information that they posted, etc. If you take your time when putting together a post (applies to technical questions, classified ads, etc.), it will ensure that there won't be a need to edit/delete anything. If you do need something, you can always contact a mod to help you out. Good luck. Kent |
