Convertible Top

The power top on my RX7 convertible, 1988, stopped short of closing. On examination I found the left (driver side) electric motor will not respond. All fuses and limit switches appear to be okay. Local Mazda dealer quotes $2000.00 cdn for new replacement. I live near Victoria, BC. Can anyone advise of where I can have the motor diagnosed and possibly rebuilt? I have been unable to find a shop locally that can do this.

Can you put power directly to the motor to see if it works at all?

Have done this and it works. However, it appears that the limiting switch does not stop it. The right motor appears to stop in one direction (up or down not attached to the top at this point). I’m assuming the left motor should stop for the opposite direction but it doesn’t. Hence the issue must be a faulty limiting switch. I’m trying to locate an auto electric service to verify and repair. This task is beyond my skill set.

Do you have the handbrake pulled all the way up until the BRAKE light is on on?

I think I remember something about the e-brake and top being connected.

You are right and yes the hand break has been fully set throughout our testing.
