Windows XP

What do I need to do with a computer that has windows XP to communicate with the E6K?

E6k only works on old computers, do I need some special upgrade or something?
Please help me out here.

you need to down grade to an inexpensive computer with DOS or win95 just for the E6K or write a new program for XP(sorry).

MOSTIN Oct 22, 2003 10:44 PM

You have to be kidding! So there is no fix for those new computers out there?

tims Oct 23, 2003 08:45 PM

I have heard some of the computer tech guys have found some ways around the problems but it is not easy for us non computer engineers to follow, and it is basicly a new program.

vosko Oct 24, 2003 11:02 AM

the easiest way is make a dos boot floppy and run the haltech program off that on new computers. i just hope you have a floppy drive lol

MOSTIN Oct 27, 2003 10:29 PM

Hey thanks but that didn't work, am I doing something wrong.

T88NosRx7 Oct 28, 2003 06:42 PM

common, you can pick up a old computer for less than a 100 bucks, just do it that way.

MOSTIN Oct 28, 2003 08:01 PM

yea where? a pawn shop?

tims Oct 29, 2003 07:22 PM

ebay is an easy online spot. I bought mine from egghead just before they went bankrupt, same auction deal as ebay. paid $150 for a compaq 5300 something. only use it for Haltech, runs win95 and works great.

just look on ebay, there are tons of people getting rid of 100-200 mhz computers.

it would works if you use dual boot right? i don't have a haltech but i'm kinda a computer guy.

MOSTIN Nov 5, 2003 08:59 PM

Even though I have windows XP?

Explain in detail please so I can explain it to my co-worker who is a kind of a computer guy too.

eoph Nov 6, 2003 01:25 AM

well u have to save the info u have on your current xp and write 95 over it because xp is gay u can't install older windows if u have it installed already. then partition your 95 give 95 like i dunno 1 or 2 gbs depending on how big the os plus the haltech software is. then put in your xp cd and choose to install to another parition the one that u dont' have 95 on. then everytime u boot it'll ask if u want to boot to 95 or xp. and u can set the default and stuff.

MOSTIN Nov 7, 2003 07:27 PM

Wow is that doable

eoph Nov 8, 2003 02:34 AM

its realy easy just tell your co-worker to do it for you

my friend has haltech and he loads the program up on his computer all the time. it works, it works on this computer as well. they BOTH have XP. so yeah. it works.

eoph Nov 8, 2003 06:30 PM

from wat people say if it runs on DOS then he prolly did something to make it work right? since mostin tried and nothing worked

MOSTIN Nov 9, 2003 07:34 AM

How about buying a USB adapter that converts the USB port to a serial port on the computer? Will that work?

eoph Nov 9, 2003 01:49 PM

i don't think it'll work. i say stick witht he dual boot method ;). you can always use old windows tor un things xps won't run. that's wat i use to use dual boot for until i made everything that didn't work on nt work lol.

TrboRty Dec 1, 2003 10:43 PM

will the haltech e6k work with a laptop with windows 98 on it?

vosko Dec 2, 2003 09:47 AM

98 works fine
