Transfering software?

ok this might be a dumb question, but i really have no idea. the previous owner gave me his car with the laptop and haltec loaded on it, and i don't have a cd or anything for the software. how do i go about transfering it onto my new laptop (old one is kinda falling apart). or do i have to contact haltec and get some sort of install disc?

Go to the www.haltech.com site and download what ever software you need. Its all there. I recommend buying an old PII or PIII laptop of ebay and installing the software on that. Preferably one that has a PIII700mhz processor or before that.

something BEFORE pIII? the laptop i picked up has an intel centrino processor, why would a newer one be bad?

Ok, you didnt mention the ECU model, but its not that it wont work, but if this is a DOS software ECU, then, newer laptops have removed DOS graphical support and on top of that they all come with Windows XP and DOS doesnt work on XP, unless you are using Virtual PC on it, and also most of them dont have serial connectors just USB.

And a pre PIII700 machine is sure to have all the necesities. :) Not to mention the fact that they are cheaper.
