Timing maps

Ive just brought a E6x second hand from someone using it on a FD with a SIngle conversion etc, he was running 16psi boost with about 300kw at the wheels.
Im gona run it in my FC with a S5 hybrid adn wanting to run about the same boost level, can i leave his timing maps alone and just modify the Fuel maps to suit? he was running 1700cc secondays and 550cc primarys, ive got 550s and 720's so they will definatly need changing. He says he has 3 maps saved, a 200kw, 250kw and 304 kw ( im obviously thinking about using the 200kw map )

That will greatly depend on what engine porting he had, and what you have, obviously your engines are totally different, but depending on who did the engine build and who did the tuning you would be able to use his timing map as a starting point. Also, another important factor to consider is fuel type, are you going to use exactly the same fuel as he did with his maps, if you are then cool, if not, it might be worth your interest to start with a few degrees of less advance than him depending on the fuel you choose.

If you want a more detailed opinion, paste the ignition map onto excel and see if you can do a "print screen" of it so we can look at it and tell you what kind of results you can expect from it, or what to look out for.

Hope that helps.

OK, am expecting it to arrive within the next day or two so will do. Obviously our ports arnt extacly the same but im expecting them to be of a similar size. As far as gas goes, we both run the same gas also.

Ive been trying to read up on timing and its still getting the better of me, especially in relation to port timing. Im not a stupid guy and understand most things with ease, but this is still boggling me. Maybe i just havnt heard a decent, proper exclamation.
As far as i understand, timing is in relation to boost ( assuming were running normal mans pump gas ) and timing maps are altered as boost increases by retarding to the total advance/retard at full load.

Every car is different. Remember that and keep that in mind. When in doubt on anything, always err on the side of caution. We're goofing with cars that are expensive items and most of us are plunking even more money into them. It therefore behooves us to be cautious about what we do, right? ;)

the thing for me is that i have NO ONE near by that can get a decent tune so i can break the motor in (1K miles) to have it tuned by someone that knows what there doing. is it safe to load a timing MAP off this section and use it for a break in period??
i dont think ill have any problems with the fuel.

at the top of the board these a list of maps you can download which should all have a timing map to suit a break in period
