TII with E6K - road speed value
Hey guys
Anyone using road speed signal in E6K? What value do you have it set on? |
Did you get it to read correctly???
I tried to get it to work when I was up there, but it wouldn't want to register correctly. :( I think the waveform was not something that Haltech likes. :( The A'PEXi electronics (i.e. S-AFC and AVC-R) seems to work fine though... -Ted |
Hooked it up to PS computer and with road value 2000 in haltech it seems to show speed OK
I will try to calibrate it with GPS on the road. |
First off how are you reading on an FC for the RSS? are your models fitted with ABS i take it, in any case, the value for the RSS to work correctly needs to be how many teeth the sensor sees for every kilometer traveled.
Also, since on RX-7's this sensor is most likely a magnetic reluctor type this will require an MSD-8509 magnetic signal stabilizer, becuase the Haltech expects a square wave pulse. Anybody know exacty how many teeth per kilometer (or mile) the sensor sees? |
all FC's do have mechanical speed input from transmission to gauge cluster
at gauge cluster is signal converted to electrical and wired to powersteering computer and cruise control computer i wired haltech road speed signal wire to stock road speed wire which goes from gauge cluster to powersteering computer i believe its green/red (in S4 TII) |
So, that is how the Cruise control/PS gets it speed information. How does the ABS speed info from each wheel get sent?
Could you use that signal? James |
But as you can clearle deduce this isnt a real pragmatical way of connecting it, becuas if you have wheel spin or different size than factory wheels this reading will vary.
That is why i asked about ABS equiped 7's, they do have a wheel sensor, which would be more beneficial and accurate. |
I understand its gonna be affected by wheelspin, but for tire size i am going to calibrate it for actual tires used with GPS.
I had ABS, but i got rid of it, as well of hubs with sensor. Might use it for this sometime later, went thru the easy way first. |
Well i guess if you calculate for proper wheel size and dont mind the value increasing with wheel speen then i guess its ok.
Do you know the variables to calculate it properly? Also, there's the question, is that signal the the dash puts out is it a square wave? |
a) dunno if its square wave
b) not sure what haltech wants to see in 'road speed value' (haven`t found any info about it in manual, if it should be actual wheel diameter or not) |
HEY you guys are really somthin! smart too.

Also, if you have the mouse belts there is a wire coming from the gauge cluster going to it.
And the best part the brain / computer for the passive belts is right under the glove box. Take your glove box out and there it is. I will take a picture of the box and the right wire when I get home. James |
Number of teeth per kilometer will depend on tire diameter. There is no single acceptable value for this.

The FD and FC sends a speed signal to dash may it be by mechanical in the FC's case or electronic in the FD. From the dash the signal is converted to a square wave signal and is sent to the various computers on board. The green wire with red stripe (G/R) is the one .

^^Thats what I did.
With the value at 2500 pulses/km it reads higher then the speedo by about 15% (100km/hr on the ticker = 115km/hr on the haltech) But it was mostly for reference during datalogging so the actual figure wasn't too important to me. Great little feature though. |
