temp sensor universal?
simple question....i hope
If i wanted to (for another application), could i use the water temperature sensor provided as an oil temperature sensor? if so, what problems would i encounter if any?? the engine is air cooled, so i have no use for water temp compensation, etc, but it needs some sort of input i suppose and it would be nice to datalog where my oil temperature is at. Thanks, |
I dont see why it wouldnt work, provided its a probe type sensor, and no fluids pass through it. As long as theyre merely touching a probe, it should work. In therory.

Installing the water temp sensor to monitor oil temp would work great! Granted, you'd have to scale the coolant temp correction maps differently, but you could easily do that to allow for fuel enrichment on a cold engine. The air temp sensor would work as it would on a water cooled engine, and would probably be more useful in making fueling corrections indexed to temp than the water/oil temp sensor.
YMMV. I think it'd work just fine! BK BMEP Fuel & Tuning |
