tapping for sensors
i am trying to tap my parts for the haltech e6k sensors. what are the thread sizes for the coolant temp and intake air temp sensors. they are both quite a bit larger than stock. im not sure if alot of them are different sizes, or if they usually give out the same size.

5/8 ''
I drilled manifold and used glue for air sensor. The WP body of the 13B-RE engine has 5/8 thread yet which closed big stub. |
The actual tap type is "3/8 NPT" and you use a 5/8" drill bit to make the hole. Thats how you do it. Also, make sure there is enough material in the location where you are making the hole or otherwise you could either pop the sensor out under boost or have boosleak or water leaks. The best spot for the coolant sensor is the stock location, where you have take out the waterpump and drill and tap it, and for the air temp, the stock location works, but the thickness of the throttle cover isnt that great, so people weld on a little more material on it to make it thick enough, or you just use a different throttle adapter all together. Either that, or put it in the intake manifold.

i was going to drill out the stock locations. just needed the sizes

why does my manual say 14MM X 1.5 for the IAT sensor??
i thought they were all 3/8 18 NPT? |

hey Claudio, what size is the metric air temp sensor?
|
Im under the impression that it will fit in the OEM location for the stock FC/FD sensor. But i havent verified it.

There is only one IAT sensor listed in the price list at this point. There used to be a metric sensor but all the kits I've seen in the last couple years have shipped with the 3/8" NPT. There is a "small thread" coolant temp sensor. This is a direct replacement for the FC/FD coolant sensor in the water pump housing.

I have no clue, that is a metric measurement, but i think that 14mm x 1.5 is roughly the equivalent of the 3/8" NPT. At any rate, i have now access to the metric sensors if anybody wants them, both air temp and coolant temp, they go for 30 bucks each and they come with connector.

The metric threads listed in the manual wouldn't be tapered.
If your sensor is tapered, then its 3/8 NPT |
The thread pitch is 14mm x 1.5. I just tapped mine. To me, it doesn't make sense to have a straight tap in that location, although the only thing that can leak out is air...
I put a little bit of silicon on the threads when I screwed it in, just to seal it up. You probably wouldn't even notice anything leaking out of it, without the sealant. Greg |
