smallest ignition module?
 

does any one have an opinion on what the lightest and most reliable ignition module is. its going on a 4 cylinder motor so 4 channel one would be best. but 2 2 channel or 4 1 channel ones would work fine as well... going to be using the stock coil-on-plug coils if that makes a difference. running off an E8.

Mitsubishi igniter from a turbo eclipse. They are 2 channel igniters basically setup up for wasted spark on a 4cyl. For your setup I would use two igniters. I've used those igniters on many applications. They are very reliable. They are also very small like around 2.25 X 2.25 X 3/8.

Why dont you just get LS1 coils, they are pretty light and have their own built in igniters, and work pretty good even in high power applications. And i can sell them to ya for about 65 bucks each + shipping. :D

because they are bigger then the coil-on-plug coils and i would then also have to get plug wires which would only add more weight. so i figured one or two small igniters would end up being less weight and hassle then 4 LS1 coils. but i could be wrong!

so if you would like to send us a free sample of 4 of them i would not mind trying them out :D. im sure we could even work in some stickers of your company logo onto the car :).

its for the FSAE car so its a low low power situation, 90 hp max for us. on a motor designed to do over 110 hp. see "E8 on bike" thread

Well like with everything used it's a gamble. The last time I tried a used set on a certain application it lasted only 1hr of continous use. The new set is still running perfect and that's after a 12hr enduro and many test runs etc.

Do you have a pic of the actual factory coil on the bike. There are a lot of COP's that could probably be retrofitted. The COP on certain Honda autos for example. Also we wanted a non built in igniter model to retrofit on a honda so we could use a CDI box and found a near perfect match from a certain application that worked. They are all made my Nippondenso so it's just a matter of figuring out the dimensions.

i had not even thought of buying other COPs with built in igniters but if you know of one close to the same dimensions that would be amazing. i would go buy some right now.

oh and where do you get your mitsu igniters?

I have used those coils on several bikes.

just a heads up, they are 2 ohm coils. Most coils I have seen are 4 ohm coils. I wire them in series and run wasted spark. Seems to be what they are designed for.

those gsxr coils? well they are what we have sitting around so i would like to use those, but if i could find some honda ones with built in igniters i would much rather do that.

They look very close to the coils on a Honda S-2000.

and those have the igniter built into them? im going to need to find some one with an S2000 now >:) . ill drop on over to honda then and see if i can grab one and compare it to the gsxr ones.

ok so i went and picked up a coil from a 2003 civic somethingorother. its a little too tall which is good but i completely forgot that the bike plugs and car plugs are not even close to the same size! so it might fit after a slight ammount of modification. ill post some pictures of all the pieces here in a bit.

i believe if i cut off some of the bottom of the coil and then find some way to hold the coils down this could work rather well.

oh and as another plus to these coils other then them being honda. they only cost 57 bucks per coil brand new.

did you get the screw on tops for your plugs?

yeah but we lost em :(. ill just buy some more plugs and they will come with em. but the coils still have no provision for holding onto those... i think...

ok so i might just give up and for the sake of reliability go with a standard ignition module. i would like to use the haltech ones and i was just wondering if there are any opinions on them.
