questions about Haltech

Ok I have do a little reading on here about haltech and other ecu's. I do have some questions about EMS's in general.

Basically later down the road i want to do a turbo upgrade on my 87 tii. so I know i will need a ems anyway. but currently i just want my car to run smoother for a while till i do the upgrade. I removed all the emmisions, ported wastegate, fmic, walbro, apexi gt spec DP and exhaust. it doesnt run as smooth as i had hoped. will the Haltech give me the ability to remove the MAF, make the motor run smoother even with a vaccum leak, basically im looking for it to make the car run good. the motor is strong just seems like the stock ECU isnt cutting it anymore. Thanks

An aftermarket ECU will allow you to run speed-density fuel mode. This will not require an air flow meter of any sort. Yes, you can get it to run smooth and with a vacuum leak. Speed density doesn't care if you have a vacuum leak or not. It will just account for it by adding fuel when it sees less vacuum.
