which one to use

i have a s5 tps that i need to wire up to my haltech e6x and i dont know which one is the one i use

also i will be putting this on a s4 tb all i am doing is removing the old tps and puttung the new one on the s4 bracket

Alex Rodriguez 09-14-07 10:36 PM

nvm thanks claudio i found a diagram of yours

C. Ludwig 09-14-07 10:52 PM

The S4 TB doesn't have the full range TPS cam. You'll need the S5 TB to go along with the sensor.

Houstonderk 09-14-07 11:06 PM

That sounds like alot of trouble for the tps. Should have just bought the haltech one.

Alex Rodriguez 09-14-07 11:09 PM

i was told that the tps can be removed and then put into the position of the s4 bracket all thats holding the tps is bent prongs

why would'nt it?

NO.

C. Ludwig is right.
There is a special cam on the throttle plates shaft that contacts the full-range TPS unit.

The TB's are different in this sense.
You should've grabbed the S5 TB also.

I just made a recent discovery while installing an E6K onto an FC with S4 engine regarding the TPS's.

ANY of the TPS can be used, doesnt matter which, the sensor it self, what you need is the S5 throttle body and bracket because like Ludwig and Ted said, thats the one with the special "cam" for the TPS to glide on to give you the 0-5v full range motion sensing.

But the fact is that you can literally any of the S4 or S5 sensors just needs to be placed on the S5 throttle with the S5 bracket to work.

Just thought id let everybody know. Always keep an S5 throttle and TPS brake handy. :D

Alex Rodriguez 09-15-07 09:28 PM

okay claudio so just get a s5 throttle body right and i am straight

Claudio RX-7 09-15-07 11:57 PM

Yup, thats it, you will use the TPS that is furthest away from the throttle plates. Dont forget to properly calibrate in the software it before you get it started.

i have a base map that brian sent me , but i have to get a hold of a tb so in the mean time for a break in will the s4 tps do that trick no boosting

why not just buy a haltech TPS? since thes TPS's are shady being so old??
1 less headache to deal with.

Nope, you wont be able to accelerate decently after about 20% which is very low. I tried it once, doesnt work well, after 20% TPS reads 100% so it screws the mixtures up.

okay so i can use the haltech tps with the s4 tb right do you sell them claudio pm me with details

I think in the long run its probably easier and more practical to just use an S5 throttle, dont you think? But since i am in DR right now, shipping is going to be a tad high. Im supposed to be in the US in a week or 2, if you havent tracked down a cheap good condition S5 throttle by then ill ship it to you. Otherwise, just contact Speed Machine, they have that in stock right now.

i will be making a bracket like this for my haltech TPS

heres a copy of notes in hitmans thread about doing it.

Throttle Position Sensor : (Or TPS)
This is a tricky one , as you will no doubt have to make a bracket to hold the TPS body still. The throttle shaft may also have to be modified to properly interface with the sensor. The inner section of the TPS should rotate with the throttle shaft , and this should happen the instant the throttle shaft is rotated. There should be absolutely no play in the shaft to sensor movement. If there is you will never eliminate slight stumbles when you drive and first touch the throttle. Any movement with the throttle should coincide with movement of the sensor. Do now worry about zero-ing the sensor yet , as this is done in the programming software. But be sure that the sensor does not inhibit the throttle shaft movement or it may jam the throttle open. Also be sure to mount it to the primary throttle and not a secondary throttle. See the picture below of the TPS on a 13B Turbo. Most OEM Throttle Position Sensors can be used with the Haltech if they are of the variable resistor type and not just a switch.

i wanted to keep my OMP and stuff but im assuming it cant be done. i been pondering if i can......

Ive done this braket several times, its real easy to do, all you need is a flat piece of 16ga steel, bend it into a Z and make 5 holes on it, 2 for the TPS, 1 for the shaft, and 2 for the mounting screws. Works well. You cant use the OMP with this because you have to remove some of the linkage on the shaft, including the OMP one.

So far, the only solution to keep the stock OMP on any RX-7, is to use the E8/E11 with either S5 or S6 and control the electronic one, the S4 shaft operated one is not possible. I believe either pineapple racing or is it tripoint (or racing beat) sell a mechanical OMP replacement that works progresively with RPMs, and no need for shafts. Can somebody confirm this info?
