OMP Setting Help
 

I just installed a Haltech 2500 with the PNP adapter into my 93. I loaded Haltech's single turbo base map and then upgraded to the nexus software. When I turned the ignition on, I noticed a noise coming from the engine bay. I thought it might be the OMP, so I opened that up and saw that the Max Speed Setting was 600 and had a warning saying the max number was only 300. Anyway, I changed that to 1 and the noise was much quiter as the OMP had a lower rpm. I just wanted to check what should these settings be? Also, should it even be pumping without the car running?

I’ve never run the OMP as a six wire. So my experience doesn’t directly relate. The OE six wire setup varies slightly in amp draw and the requirement on the drivers. All of them I’ve done have used custom harnesses where the two 12v feeds to the pump are eliminated and the motor is driven as a 4 wire unit. Which is a more traditional way to do it. So my experience is different. You can always depin the 12v feeds at the pump and run the OMP as a 4 wire.

Next, the OMP is not a pump. The oil is pressurized, pumped, by the engine oil pump. The OMP stepper motor is simply a motor that changes position to open and close the internal orifice to meter the quantity of oil to enter the chamber. The steps per second number is not an RPM number it’s the speed at which the stepper motor will change positions. It has a 200 step range from full closed to full open. 600 steps per sec would mean it would take 1/3 of a sec to move from closed to full open. 300 steps per second would take 2/3 of a second. I had always used 600 steps/sec on the older stuff. 300/second was recommended with the Nexus. Either is plenty fast to accomplish the job. 1 step/sec is not appropriate.

You should never here the OMP making noise and it should be stationary with the engine not running. It’s a straightforward process of setting the motor up but I really don’t feel like typing it all out. I’d recommend contacting your vendor for support (that’s what they’re there for) or Haltech directly, if your vendor can’t support you. If the vendor can’t support you, buy from someone else the next time.
