No communication with the Haltech

Just wired in my haltech this weekend and Cant get any communication with my laptop, I have tried everything possible and still no luck. It will have communication for the first 3-5 seconds like its loading and it just goes back to "reconnect Haltec". I need some help here. I will try to use another labtop computer tomorrow and see what happens.
I've had problems with this laptop before trying to communicate with other ECU's.

Try a different laptop. The slower the better:D

what operating system? remember the Haltech program is a DOS program, so the best system is win95 or older(DOS 6.0 would be best). win98 works but the older the operating system the better.

I saw a similar problem recently. After trying numerous laptop's and serial cables, we swapped a new unit in and it connected right away no problems. The serial port on the unit must have gone bad, so it was sent back to Haltech.

Well the haltech communicates with a old PC computer so its not the Haltech.

Don't take this in a bad way. But, I had the serial port on an old laptop shit out on me. Why I don't know, maybe it was to cold in the car over night. I've been inside the fucker twice (not fun) and indeed the port just stopped working. Test the port. I used hyperterminal and a loop thingy.

shake the port connector on the haltec side.if you find that it rattles, take it apart and put the lock down screws back into place.if that don't fix it it has short the port in the unit.send it back to aus. enjoy.i had that problem no fun!
