No BAC and Stock coils on Elite 1500?(first haltech)
I have a S4 TIINA (stock motor). I recently purchased the Haltech elite 1500 with the premium harness from Banzai and have a couple questions. The previous owner deleted the BAC, would it be worth it to buy a BAC for the Haltech? The car idled fine on the stock computer just a little high. Also is the Elite 1500 capable of using the stock coils? |
Hey mate.
The Bac can be helpful. Really comes down to where you are located (if you have extremes in weather) Where I am its warm most of the year so it's not as critical, as you noticed it might just idle a bit high. But would be easy and chep to have it reinstalled if your all 100% stock. It will have no issue running the stock coils. |
look on banzai's site you need to modify the trailing coil to be used for that application by turning it into a direct fire setup. You will need 2 trailing coils to do so.

Ok thanks guys. Ill search the for sale threads for a used BAC. I have a bunch of stock coils from the motors I’ve collected over the years. Glad to finally find a use for them. Again thanks and hopefully I can start the car soon. |
I'm on a FD but have found the idle control valve to be extremely helpful. I found I was able to achieve a lower, more stable and consistant idle (1600 on a semi peripheral vs 2000 without). It also starts easier and can be tuned for drivability on the roads so that the valve controls the idle instead of the engine just going where it wants based on road conditions with one preset mechanical flowpoint.

I think I still have one on my intake manifold w/ clipped harness plug. Shoot me a little bit of CESH + cover shipping and it's yours. Just checked the garage, it's out at the shop. The little IACV stepper motor one, right?

Yes it goes on the backside of the upper intake manifold. Close to the boost sensor. If you’ve got it I’ll take it. |

Mikey, definitely have one at the shop. I can ship it to you next week.

I have everything ready to go and no spark! Maybe I didn’t follow Banzai trailing coil mod although I tripled checked it. So I’ve decided to just go ahead and stop fucking around and buy the AEM smart coils. Does anyone know of a kit that comes with everthing included? I’ve seen picutures online of a nice bracket replacing the AC and Power steering. SBG RX7 FD IGN-1A KIT Post a copy of your current tune file in here and I'll gladly take a look and make sure you got everything set up right regardless of whether you keep the stockers or go the IGN-1A route. You'll want to make the software change to direct fire with the coils unplugged, so as not to fry one with what was assigned in the base map as the BAC output. You'll also need to repin the BAC wire at the ecu to another output and reassign that function in the ECU. Its all pretty easy and in my opinion a great upgrade. Skeese |

I based the tune off the Haltech base map for S7/8 with a single turbo. I left the BAC disconnected for now since I dont have the plumbing connected. I did not unplug the coils at the time of changing the setting to direct fire so I fucked up. Thanks for the second pair of more experienced eyes, really appreciate it.
no worries, I fried an aem coil over it Skeese |
I ordered the coils already and hoping that’s the last issue. I’m using haltech water and air temp sensors, low impedance injectors, stock FC CAS, and S4 tps. I haven’t wired in the boost solenoid, BAC, or launch control switch since I just wanna get the car started for now. I’ll get back to you when I install the coils but that may take awhile. |
Glad the BAC made it alright. Keep us in the loop, Mikey!

Bad News: Ok so coils are wired and installed but car still won’t start. Good News: Tested the fuel pump and had power but no pressure. Sorry I took so long to get back to y’all, but these summer classes didn’t really leave me with a lot of time. And I also was job hunting. Next step order new fuel pump and hopefully she will start. I did manage to wire up the alternator and switch panel while I was doing the coils. |
Hey at least you got a curlprit. No fuel pressure will modt definitely cause it to not start. If you want, email me your current tune file and I can look it over to double check it all aligns in there. Coils look good though, I like them in that location.

sethallen.cca@gmail.com Skeese Ok Walbro installed and working like a charm, but still won’t start. After some digging I found no spark from the coils. With new coils, wires, and plugs I’m thinking its a CAS or tune related problem. If you could please look over the tune I’d really appreciate it. |
What’s the sync state and rpm while cranking? |

Open a window and monitor sync state while cranking. |

Sounds like it’s not picking up the home signal. Sync level should be full while cranking. If it’s none, it’s not seeing the home signal. Post your map. |
