New Sotware for E6K!!!???

http://www.hitman.hm/e6k.htm

Funny its listed here but I don't think they will make the E11 software available for the E6K. If they did it would be nice:)

I guess they really are not releasing a newer version of the software. Thats to bad since I cannot afford the E11:(

There's nothing wrong with the E6K as it is, nor with the DOS software.

What's the big push for new software? New features, I can see. . . but a whole new program??? I can't see any sense in it.

Yeah I mean it works fine as it is, maybe if it would come with a microphone or a gas analyzer, and adjust itself, id be super happy, but maybe thats asking too much

I just thought the new version would be easier to use.

Ian

Its also looks cool!

If you're holding your breath waiting for Windows based software for the E6K, don't. It's not going to happen in this lifetime. Consider the number of years that the E11 has been in work (eight years, from what I'm told) and the fact that the project had been started, stopped, and re-started again at ????? cost. Re-writing software for a product that has proven itself to be effective and reliable is an expense and risk that Haltech cannot and will not take.

Furthermore, if you like your Haltech and want the company to be around for years to come, providing us with future upgrades and updates for the systems we have now and are likely to have in the future, I suggest you write to Haltech both in US and AU and tell them so. There's been some talk that the US office might be shut down due to complaints made by customers. This would be a bad, bad thing for us all, folks. Constructive feedback will help make them better, as well as make them aware of what our market segment wants. If you like your Haltech, take a minute to shoot those folks a letter or e'mail and let them know about it. I promise you that kind words will be appreciated and rewarded.

I have several beta builds of the Windows version of the E6K software, but all of them suck giant monkey balls. It apparently doesn't work on regular E6K's either. Haltech stopped work on it and got someone else to do what is now the E11 software. I'm afraid the E6K Halwin is dead.

fatboy7 Feb 13, 2003 01:07 PM

Perhaps it is dead. But if Haltech was smart, the communication protocols between the E11 and the E6k aren't too disimilar. Also, if the software engineers that made the software for the E11 made it in such a way that with some minor work it could be made reverse compatible, you could see this HalWin come out on more than just the E11.

That being said, it really depends on marketing. If they really want to sell the E11 as a full replacement for the E6K, then it would be stupid for them to make further incentives to keeping the E6K around. On the otherhand, if the E11 is meant to handle a different market segment, then keeping the E6K viable would require this sort of improvement.

The more I look at the software the more I wonder why everybody praises the haltech.

I bought one only because of said support etc.

I think the software sucks!!

I don't know what peak hold display is but the E6K has real time data logging and display. you just have to have your laptop connected to save or view the information. By using the data logging functions you can find what the highest value for any givin parameter the Haltech uses. Some of the reasons for bad mouthing these and other products are very trivial. I have never needed the data logging function of my E6K and I only use the engine output page when the car is in the shop. I have been able to tune it and race it successfully for almost three years. On the first car we even converted from turbo to N/A. I would consider this unit a great value for the money. there are better units and units with more functions, but for the price I think the E6K is a great ECU.
