New Haltech release schedule?

So, there has been a lot of talk about a new Haltech and promises that it will be impressive. I know that at least one of the respected tuners has had some exposure to it and sounds as though he is sworn to secrecy.

My question is, is there a timeline in place for its release and does anyone have any details about the features it might have? I'm especially interested in knowing whether or not there will be a dash logger (like the Motec ADL).

If this product is anywhere close to ready as I have been lead to believe, it surprises me that Haltech has no information (that I can find) about it on their web site. No 'coming soon' or anything. Even if they aren't sure what features will actually ship, I'm sure that there are some aspects of it that are written in stone by now.

im also interested in this. I was wondering if there was going to be a big price different between the new version and the old e6k? Also is there going to be an upgrade for ppl using the e6k or is it completely different.

the reason i am asking the question is that i was hoping someone on the board would know the answer, maybe hitman, so that i wouldnt have to call long distance to australia to find out.

While I certainly believe it is their right to withold as much information as they see fit, it doesn't seem like a very good idea.

For myself, the new version is nothing more than vaporware. Without any other information to go on, I am left with a decision between their current offering and a Motec. Their current offering doesn't have a dash logger. I could get a supplemental system like a Pi or Stack for the dash.

It just seems like it would be in their best interest to tell us something so that we can make informed purchasing decisions.

As it stands, I have to believe that they:

1. Have nothing new to offer. Since I don't believe that people like Hitman are just lying about it, that doesn't seem like a likely possibiliy.

2. They are still so far from working out issues with the new unit that they couldn't nail down specifics like release date and features with any accuracy.

3. There are a lot of E6Ks on the shelf that they want to sell. Maybe E6K sales are good right now and they know the price will deflate when the newer model comes to market.

I'm not slamming them, they can do whatever they want. I guess I'll just have to take Autronic#1's advice and call them myself :).

maybe haltech doesn't want to bait the hook like aem did. maybe they are making sure they have a working product before its announced?

I can completely understand that. I'm not looking for promises or anything. It's just that I thought there was a rumored release date of earlier this year. I understand that it was just a rumor and I've never seen Haltech say anything about a release date. It's just strange to me that there is this rumored new and great ECU and their site says absolutely NOTHING about it.

Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up. I'm not complaining, really, I just find it strange. I'm hoping for a dash logger solution that is competitive with Motec that I can buy for somewhat cheaper. I have no idea whether or not I should hold out hope for such a thing.

After I speak with Haltech, I will set the record straight with whatever information they decide to make public.

Very wise words. Learn from this person :D

And why should Haltech release any iinformation? You have said yourself that Haltech themselves have no information on this product, yet look at the expectations already! You can't beat word of mouth for free publicity! :D

The_HITman Aug 8, 2002 06:41 PM

Yes, they have learned from other manufacturers and themselves from the past (cough - Halwin...) and will not be releasing any details until they have finished it and it works correctly. They also wont release details until they have enough in stock. When the E6K was released they only had a small number which sold out in days and left many people stuck on back order. They dont want that to happen again. AS you can see they have not officially even released a name for it yet. Anything can change at the last minute.

All I can say is that it is looking quite impressive. I will post full details on it and maybe a few screenshots, but only when I get the OK to do it.

as long as it doesn't have a serial cable i'll be happy

hitman, do u know if there will be anyway for e6k owners to upgrade to the newer version when it is released? I dont want to buy the e6k and be stuck with something not as good as the new version.

The_HITman Aug 11, 2002 04:31 PM

There will be no easy way to upgrade. It has double the number of pins at the ECU, and with alot more inputs and outputs there is no chance the wiring is the same.

Ryde _Or_Die Aug 13, 2002 04:13 PM

Any idea on a timeline, like a year, 6 months or 2 months? Which would you say? :D

Heath Aug 24, 2002 11:17 AM

I have to agree with Gordon. I have a friend that said he can get me a fairly good deal on a Motec unit but I would prefer to wait and see what the new Haltec has to offer, and at what price. I hope they choose to release soon, but respect the fact they probably want to release a "bug-free" and smooth operating system.

sbaker25 Aug 26, 2002 05:01 PM

Alright, I just spoke with Haltech.

I didn't have a great phone connection at the time and I don't understand everything the guy said. From what I could gather:

The new unit is 32 bit

It can control up to 8 injector banks (I'm actually assuming this is what he said - he said something about now being able to control 8 something and it would seem that it's not injectors since the current unit already does that for low impedence)

It has wide band lamda capability and on board ability to work with the Bosch sensor.

Data logging - I don't know how it will differ from the current offering.

Windows software

CAN bus interface but no dash logger available from them.

Approximate release date at this time is December/January.

Apparently a large part of the delay is due to chip supply for their injector drivers.

I did ask them if it was OK for me to relay this information but please don't hold Haltech accountable for any errors or misinterpretations I've made here.

So, for me, it's down to the E6K or the M4 :).
