Negative Haltech E6X Ignition.
 

Well I just got back to messing with my car after 4 months and started back up with finishing my haltech install.

I have one problem, nether the trailing or leading plugs are firing. I get a RPM read out off my laptop, injectors are firing, but nothing from the ignition side of the house. I check the voltage to the coils and they have 12 volts switched runing to them. I also have no indication on my tach.


Back 4 months ago, the first time I motored the engine for oil pressure, I got indication on my tach after motoring the engine for about 30 seconds. After that first time I never got it again and because of work, I never got to look into this problem till now.


Any help would be nice.

Just one thing to ask, are your ignition output wires connected to where they should go exactly, nothing else missed wired? Are the settings on the ignition output setup properly done on the software?

What ECU is this?

E6X, I will post my settings tomorrow and double check the wires again. I hope its just simple software problem or wiring issue. I am just paranoid about people having to send new ECUs back to Haltech for repair.

i bet its the wiring to the coils. you fudged it. the stock tach takes its reading from the secondary coil

Check to make sure you are getting 12V switched to the coils.

Just double checked the wiring once more. Its correct. Question, during cranking or anything else should Ign 1 have ground continuity? What kind of signal does the Haltech provide for ignition? I assumed the Haltech provided the ground...

Haltech fires a pull-to-ground pulse for all igntion and injector leads.

Thanks, thats what I thought Ted. Any reason you would think why my Ign wires have a constant ground going to them? I know it does it when the car is keyed on, I will check tomorrow if it does when its keyed off.

If my E6X has feeding a constant ground to the ignitors, have have a filling they are probably fried.

Hard to tell unless you o-scope the signal.
Your DMM might not be good enough to "see" the pulses?

Its 200 dolllar Fluke. But you are right. Correct me if I am wrong, their shouldn't be a ground runing to the ignitor with out the engine rotating? Correct?

Update::::

Well I feel better about this. I was using a 4 pin molex connecter and one pin was loose. Pulled the connecter apart and soldered the Haltech lead directly to the CAS. Ignition works now, sorta (get to that later), and the tach reading on laptop is much better. (it would spike to 6000 or so every once in a while). I find it strange that Injectors would fire but not ignition, with a bad CAS connection.

Still have small ignition problem. I am sure its one of my settings though, I just haven't had time to look into it, one of my trailing plugs fire and other doesn't. I will investagate that tomorrow.

Car has new Magnacor 8.5 wires and new NGK stock plugs.

BTW Car is 89 Turbo II.
