Ignition Setup
 

Mods Please don't be mad with me posting this in two sections.. I think it relates to both sections...Anyhow here I go!!

Hey Guys, My question pertains to ignition setup for a single turbo FD3S.

Before anyone goes off and say search....Well I have, many times, and have gotten too many variations of ignition setup to use with no real data or how to, and less on how to properly set any up on a haltech.

Anyway. I have the hks twin-power setup and would like to go to a more robust and proven system for a high hp rotary. I'm looking to make a jump into the 600-700 hp bracket and want something that works and works well 99% of the time.


I took a look at the M&W ignition kit and love it, but hate the price. I think I'm really looking more into the MSD setup or anything better for a round the price range. They are so many different ones on the market. I honestly don't care for suppose to work better but proven stuff.

Can anyone offer any real solutions.

Also, this has to work with a Haltech e6x, which should be no problem....if I knew how to set it up.:)

Yes, this has been covered a lot, but here are the basics:

- M&W (pricy, but the best)

- MSD (good price, but, when talking rotaries you either need 3 6A boxes, or 2 DIS-2 boxes making price not really that much less than the proven M&W's, plus you need coils too)

- LS1 coils (so far it seems they are capable of 550+hp on a 13B, and they are so cheap its well worth it to get them and see how far you can push them)

I honestly cant think of anything else thats worth looking at.

how do you wire up the LS1 coils? Say I keep the twin power but use the ls1 coils instead of the stock FD coils how would you wire it up?

Forget the HKS unit, there's no need for it. LS1 coils are pretty good all around.

Just wire them directly.

Not to be a pain Claudio but the Twinpower is a very good unit. It has been proven to provide spark in the region of horsepower he is looking for.

Well, ok, i mean, i dont have much experience with the HKS unit, and from what ive seen i guess it does work, but my equestion is, how would the LS1 coils cope with it? or in that case, would he just leave his stock igniter and coils and stick with the HKS box and be able to get the results he's looking for?

He would stick with the stock coils/ignitors and just run the HKS unit.

ok fair enough, what about a MSD setup. It seems that they are so many different ways to go here, but so little information on accomplishing it. Alot of opinions but I'm finding it hard to hit the nail with the hammer with this one.

What setup are out there and how do you set them up in a nut shell is what I'm asking.

Well, here are your choices:

1. 100% Stock
2. LS1 Coils
3. Stock + HKS Twin Power
4. Stock + MSD (needs two DIS-2 or three 6A boxes)
5. MSD DIS-2 (x2), or 3x 6A boxes + SS Coils
6. M&W Pro14 Rotary + M&W CDI Coils

All these combos are tried and true. I honestly wish there was an affordable CDI box that could be used with 4/6/8 cylinder engines, and have the capability of being able to control a 13B or a 20B, all in one box.
