How Hard is it to install the Haltech.....Really??
Hi, I've seen pics of this done at several web sites but does anyone out their have real life time actually installing that bad boy? The box comes with what seems to be miles of wire and sounds very complicated to do. Is it worth trying to do it myself or paying a company 1500-2500 to install & tune? I'm not going to be doing the tuning, I'll have to take it somewhere for that but I figure if I could install the Haltech myself I could save myself some cash........thats if I don't blow the motor cause I wired somrthing wrong........:D

if you can follow a dot to dot but do it with wires instead of a pencil, then you should be able to do the install yourself
is your car a fc or fd? the wiring into a FC can be found on hitmans page, after following his instrutction on his page my car started first pop. if you can put in a stereo you can put in an E6K |
Wow, $1,500 - $2,500 just to install and tune???  Man, I'm not charging enough!  I charge $500/install and $500/street tune myself...

Hi...Its an FD. Do you need the factory wire harness? Or just the connectors? Ya over here in florida the shops want some arms & legs for their work. I've heard of some guys that will do it for around 500 but I don't trust them with my car....cause they are'nt big shops but guys who race their own cars and know their shit. I just can't take that car to just anyone. Is their a website that has a true step by step process? Thanx for the input.:D
|
I havent seen any sites like that for an FD. The Haltech will come with its own harness, depending on which one you pick, it will either have all the connectors attached, or you'll have to attach them yourself. HWO is right, if you can put in a stereo, you can put one in. Im going to be installing my own.

How much interest is there for an adapter loom so you can simply plug the haltech into factory ecu plugs and make minor under hood changes
Chris |
K2RD already makes a plug n play harness...but the fucker is $450 !!!!!! If you want to go that route you could just splice the wires into the stock harness in the passenger kick panel. Instructions here... http://www.ricemobile.net
I kinda did a mix of both. I removed the stock engine harness which has the #3 & #4 stock ECU plugs on it. Then I ran the Haltech wires for the crank trigger, injectors, MAP sensor, coolant & air temp sensors, BAC, TPS, O2 sensor and radiator fans into the motor bay and soldered them to the stock connectors. I wired the ignitors, fuel pump, road speed, and tach signal into the sotck connector #1 in the kick panel. |
if you are in florida, go and see Crispeed.

I put power to my Haltech last night, pretty uneventful, I powered it up and everyting works...Max

Good job Max, I cant wait to install mine.

Bacon and i were drinking a little one day and did his in about 5hrs or so...correct me if i am wrong Len.
he had the flying loom. easy ass instal. i hve the terminated harness but do not have the time to put it in right now. like Ted said...WOW! $2500.... |
Geee.....You guys make it sound easy!
I'm going to do alot of searching and reading. If I get the nerve to do it I'll let you guys know how it went. Thanx for all the info.

alot better to say the least..like 90% HEALED :D
any idea on the oil press sensor? when i unhook it and cycle the key it will read 0 but hooked up it peggs...is it just b/c its never seen any oil press yet? guess ill have to start it to find out.... |
I did about 65% of mine last night, and it was very very easy. I could have done it with my eyes closed. I install car stereos professionally and I have done alarm/remote starter combos that were harder :)
Now the usuage and tuning might be a different factor all together, but we'll see :) The TPS on the Cosmo 13b-re throttle body REALLY SUCKED, still havent figured it out yet :) |
Bacon:
Be sure you got your oil pressure connector right ... ie didn't connect your coolant temp connector on the oil pressure sender. They are in real close proximity and they have the same connector. With a stock engine wiring harness you can't mix them up because the coolant temp connector is not long enough to reach the oil pressure sender but if you were cutting and splicing wire .... Carson |
Where the hell is the oil pressure connector? I thought it was on the side of the housing. Is it totally different for 3rd gens? Maybe the coolant temp connector is in a different spot...
|
The oil pressure sender and the stock coolant gauge sensor are both on that rear cast housing. They are very close together.
|
Hm, my coolant temp sensor is built into the waterpump housing.
|
3rd gen water housing has three items .... level sensor, radiator fan thermoswitch, and ecu coolant sensor.
|
Oh your talking about the gauge sender, not the ECU one. Doh.

Re: How Hard is it to install the Haltech.....Really??
Is there a complete list of Haltec install writeups? Which one is the best for the 3rd gen?
