Haltech w/MSD?
Can I run a Haltech E6K or E6X with a MSD 6A ignition system? Do I need a crank angle sensor, or will the distibutor for a factory 12A work? I'm also wondering how it would hook up to a MSD if in fact a MSD will work.

E6K can run with an MSD box and yes you will need some type of crank angle sensor. no you don't need a distributor. the E6K handles the spark and fuel. start off by reading through the manual it will answer some of these simple questions.

I have an extra 13B Crank Angle Sensor so you can ditch the distributor. PM me if you are interested. $25 shipped to your door.

Thats what i thought , so i'll have to use that tiny white wire which is only an inch long now.Dohh! Oh and I can get a tps sensor fairly easily, thanks anyway

The TPS will be supplied with the Haltech flying lead harness. You will not need to use anything from the distributor.
Good luck see ya at work:) |
ok ive got the haltech E6X now. it says you can use an msd ignition but it dosent say wether the trigger is used with the magnetic pickup on the msd or the white wire which is used for msd electronic distributor. also the msd instructions say that an msd ignition is not to be used with distributorless ignitions. So basically i need to know which trigger wire(s) I use to connect to the Haltech!!!!!

The white one - it triggers as a points dristributor.
You need to set the Haltech to trigger the MSD properly if you're going to install it straight inline prior to the coil, as the MSD triggers on the RISING edge. -Ted |
that helps alot RETed. should i have the out put type set to "costant charge" or "constant duty"? can run the msd coil setup im using on my direct fire 12a with a distributor or should i try to use tII coils? the TII coils have ignitors so they might not work with the msd. should the spark mode be direct fire or ditributor if im using a cas? do you know how to hook up the cas to the haltech? when using msd for the leading, can i still use the haltech alone to run 2 TII coils for the trailing as described in e6x manual or will i run one tII coil for both the trailing? Advice from anyone will be greatl appreciated

Oh, that's an interesting question...
If you're not going to use MSD's on all 3 channels (leading, front trailing, rear trailing) then you cannot change the Haltech to run ignition output = rising for just the MSD on the leadings; the Haltech will change all ignition output to rising, and this will mess up the trailings. Only if you're using MSD's on all channels can you change the ignition output to rising and run the Haltech ignition output wires directly to the MSD (and then to the coils). I think it'll be easiest to run the stock FC3S coil packs, which includes the ignitor (in the base) with the coil. You can insert the MSD (for the leadings) on just the leading coil pack in between the ignition (base) and the coil itself. Set ignition type to "distributor"; this will allow the Haltech to control the stock toggle on the trailing coil pack. Set ignition output to "falling", "constant charge", with coil charge time anywhere from 4.5ms to 5.0ms. If you help with the MSD install, I have instructions here: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/CDI/cdi.html Good luck! -Ted |
ok, now you said that this will toggle the stock coil pack for the trailing. so that means I need only one coil pack for the trailing and one for the leading, right? Also, what will the trigger input type be ( hall effect or internal reluctor)?? if hall effect, what would be the edge (rising or falling), or if int. reluctor what would the trig gain be? And, to conclude this session of 20 questions, Aside from the trig input is the TRIGGER TYPE, there are several settings; standard, multitooth, subaru a, motronic, mazda a, etc. which one do i want?

Set gain at "3" for both home and trigger. We normally use "multitooth", but you might be able to use "mazda a" - check with the manual! -Ted |
