Haltech install walk through ???
 

I'm getting ready to install my ps1000 this week and was searching for a guide or step by step on the install. I did a google search and found a great one but it's for a diff Haltech model. I just want it for insurance just in case I run into a question I can refer to it. I saw the stickie here in the Haltech forum but the links were no good. Anyone know where there is a how-to on the net ? If not I may just make one so that that it may help someone else later down the road. Thanks in advance.

I was in the same situation as you when I installed my sprint RE. There arent any walkthroughs out there that I know. Ive search for days. But it really is simple atleast after you finish it. looking back on the whole thing its pretty straight forward. If your like me and havent done an install at all before this then its gonna be alil confusing but it isnt too bad.

I planned on making a walk-through as well but then I decided not to. If your installing on a 2nd Gen I can help.

^BDC has an awesome install walk through for the Sprint RE... Search his SN.. If you can't figure it out by reading it. I'd pay to have it put in.

I am installing it in my FC. I'm planning on starting on it later today. My stupid camera broke so ill have to use my GoPro to do the pics for the How-to. Ill send you a PM in a few minutes with a couple questions.

man that is awsome. thanks for the help. one question though. on the inj part of the notes it says for the red wire to "parse" it. What does that mean? Im pretty good with wiring and have done lots of it but never heard that term (keep in mind i tought myself how to wire) thanks again man that is great notes.

well, think about it. the wires you send out to the injectors are one ground, and one power. you only get one power wire and 4 grounds. the power wire must go to all 4 injectors. its up to you to split the wire into 4 so you can feed each injector. go look at the diagram and you will see quite simply how to wire it up.

guys, you are attacking the project in such a weird way. sure, all those wires look like its an insane job, but you only have a handfull of connections to things. you have 1 cas (4 wires), 4 injectors(2 wires each), fuel pump with relay, a ignition wire that can go to any black/yellow wire on the FC, a coolent temp sensor and an air intake sensor, a TPS, 3 wires in the coil packs you splice into, a couple of power wires, a couple of grounds, and thats pretty much it.

dont attack it as one big ass project, just attack it as one injector at a time.

decide FIRST where to lay the ecu and relay(s). usually inside the glove box or where the old cpu went. then, run the wireing harness through the firewall at the old pass through point. the wiper harness must be kept and the two connectors at the passenger kick pannel should be then saved and the wires connecting each other. in this connector you will find TWO black/yellow wires. these are IGN power wires. perfect for haltech. splice into one of them.

then once you have the harness pulled through, make a path for the harness to the engine and the approximate path to each sensor, item. make sure to leave a lot of slack just in case you fuck the job up. ALWAYS crimp and never solder.

Ok I've read multiple times on here about not soldering. Anyone care to explaine why not to solder. I do plan on getting new plugs. I already got new plug for injectors,cas, and temp sensors. Was trying to find the one for coils. Anyway back to soldering. I understand not soldering the pins and crimping them but to connect 2 wires together isn't it a better connection to solder.

heat and vibration will kill a solder joint.

So does that mean I should go back and change my head unit install to crimped? Or is it mainly the heat that gets them

Soldering is fine when it's done properly. The OEs solder and there are solder joints in the Haltech harnesses when they supply them to you.

Brian, What does this mean?

"Aluminum foil/tape on trigger harness up to join on wiring harness near
firewall -- wrap several innches of leftover black ground wire then
splice together at joint with ring terminal on 'CHASSIS GND' black
lead - ground to engine block"

Ok so I got alot of the harness label where it goes. I do have a few/bunch of questions about some of the wires. Some questions im just wanting to be sure of placement and some i have no clue.

1.The wires labeled "o2 input"
GREYY/ORANGE
GREY/RED
BLACK/WHITE do these go to o2 sensor or are they for wideband (which I dont have)? If for my OEM o2 then how do I wire it?

2. wires for the map sensor. Do I need them? I thought the unit has Map sensor built in.

3. Wires labeled "DPO". Do I need the Grey/red ones? I see the others listed on the link from above but not those 2.

4. On the link above its has "PWM's" now this may be stupid question but what is PWM?

5.Wires labeled "SPARE" can i just tuck them away or do I need them? either way what are they used for?

6.Wires labeled "DSI" grey/green. What are they for? or do I even need those?

7. Wires labeled "DPI". Do I need them?

GREY

GREY/BLACK
BLACK/WHITE

8. Wires labeled "IDLE" the link above says "cut these 4". is that because i dont need them or am i misreading it?

thanks. I hopefully will finish the install. I managed to run the wires through the firewall then as usual an idea popped in my head to do a wire tuck. So out came the motor. Just about done with the tuck and hopefully will finish the install by end of next weekend. I gota work the next 4 nights 8pm to 8am so no time to work on it for a couple days.

Ok I got my wire tuck done to the point I can jump back on the Haltech install . Can some answer the questions from above post? Thanks to everyone and I'll be posting pics of engine bay with minimal wires showing once done

PWM = pulsed width modulated. meaning it gives a square wave signal.
DPI = digital pulsed inputs
DSO = digital switched outputs
DSI = digital switched inputs

Do I need them or can I tuck them away under the dash

you most deff need some of them to run things like injectors and whatnot. coil up the unused wires for future use and tuck them. nothings worse than a patched to hell wiring harness.

Ok so I don't need them right now. Only if I'm running extra injectors or something like that

Is there a walk through for an FD?
