haltech idle control motor
:scratch: So lately my car has been having trouble idling usually when coming down from a high rpm. Like from 2nd gear 5k and just go to neutral and it just stalls. The car idles around 1400 warm, and basically just has that problem. Can the haltech motor just keep up with that kind of flow or speed? I usually hear to just go back to the stock bac, but I already paid for this one and would like to figure out if maybe the setting is wrong or something.

A few things to check:
- Make sure the TPS is reading 0% fault or 0% when off-throttle; re-calibrate if necessary - What are the AFR's and the leading advance deg when on decel to 2krpm and below? - Is the throttle body actually still open? Any BAC valve or idle air motor is designed as an idle trim and not the thing that actually sets the hard idle. Do it on the throttle body first. B |
my car has the same problem. it pisses me off when im in traffic. the car is fine when cold/warm. but after you drive it for 30 mins to an hour. the idle comes down to normal, 700 or sometimes below normal about 500. often times when im driving, 2nd gear, 3rd gear. and i come to a stop. either i shift to neutral or just step on the clutch. the car dies and i have to keep starting it back up.

I ended up just raising the idle and richening the areas where it idles high to lower it.

A good way to stabilize idle is to use timing. Say you want the car to idle at 1000 rpm and have 15* advance for example at 1000. If you give it a few extra degrees (say 18*) below 1000 that can help to keep the idle from dipping excessively below the target. You can also manipulate the timing above 1000 to keep the revs from climbing as the engine warms up. A/F can be used in the same way though IMO it's effects are a little less subtle.
The BAC valves also work very well once setup properly. It's takes some time and patience to get them right but the valve and the Haltech control works well. |
I tried with the timing and when I get it right the free reving is all jacked up so I just stopped with the timing and went to fuel.
