haltech iac problem (pipe tape culprit)
I've been running a haltech iac that I bought from speed machine a while back. I never had any problems until a few months ago the car just stopped idling. So I pulled the iac and the car ran not that bad. So I pulled the spring loaded part off that moves and I found pipe tape on the threads(it could have been clean pipe dope). I did my best to clean it and It idled perfect. Two weeks later I get the same problem again. So I take all the pipe tape off and make sure to cleaned up, It runs fine. My car is down for 2 weeks and then tonight when I got the car running I'm having the same problem again.
Is there a proper way to clean this stepper motor out? It just sucks when I'm driving into Cambridge and I'm sitting in traffic going over the bridge onto commonwealth ave and my iac decides to stop working with no where to pull over and I'm in stop and go traffic. |
I am inclined to think that you have a bad stepper motor or bad wiring, I never had any issue with an idle stepper motor.
You don't need an idle stepper or BAC to have a good idle, a good way to alleviate this problem is adjust the idle so the warmed up null load idle is just below where you want it to be with the stepper or BAC inactive. Then allow the stepper motor to bring the idle up another 100 rpm. |
