Haltech E8 for REW help/advise
 
I am in the process of researching everything I can before I rebuild my REW. I am keeping it sequential with BNR twins. the motor came with no computer

When I bought the motor, the previous owner had cut all the wires to pull the motor.

My questiones is:

1: Will splicing the wires from the E8 to the engine throw off the voltages because of the extra resistance? Or is there a formula to compensate for it if need be?

2:Am I better off installing a new engine harness?

Are you talking about using the OEM harness that was cut and splicing the haltech wires to that or was this a haltech harness that was cut in half?

If its an OEM harness forget it, just take it out, cut the connectors off and keep them for use with the Haltech harness no need to worry about resitances.

If its a Haltech harness that was cut in half, you can reuse the wires.

Also, are you putting this engine in an FD, FC or FB? I have a post somewhere on this section where it says how to connect the stock twins using OEM hardware and minimal vacuum solenoids with few outputs, with an E8 you should be able to make it all work perfectly. Or are these now NON sequential turbos with all the sequential hardware removed?

This will be going in my FB :D. I have to assume that the engine harness like the computer were OEM. This will be a fully sequential set up using the BNR sequential turbos..

Just ditch what is left of the stock harness. If you're using the stock injectores keep the connectors (assuming they're in good shape). Pitch the rest. You won't have a problem with soldering the connections or using a quality crimp if that's your thing. It would be possible with the E8 to use the stock coolant and air temp sensors but IMO it's best to just fit the Haltech specific sensors and use their connectors.

Also, keep the TPS connector, and the TPS of course, the Crank sensor connecotrs, the IAC connector, the air temp connector, coolant temp connector, and all the solenoids with connectors, and keep the harness in a box somewhere, DONT throw it away. :D

You'll need all that stuff to make a clean install.

Yeah, posting when coming home after a big party night and half drunk isnt a good idea either. :D Im not saying i've done it though (or have i?).

Thanks for all the information!! It looks like I have a lot to read up on. Its very reassuring though that whatever I may need is out there

Also just kinda curious, but do you plug your laptop into the e8 directly, or does it have a terminal connected by cord? Ill definately order the Haltech engine harness, and a lot of my sensors look so far so good:) Although I am a fan of keeping everything under one manufacturer when possible. e.g. My moniter and Comp are both HP and work amazingly together.
