Haltech cutting out over bumps/potholes. Where to start looking?
Title sums it up. Haltech Elite 1500 in my FB, running nicely and mounted under the passenger footwell in the OEM location. About a year old, but hasn't been driven more than about 700 miles in that time. All new and custom made wiring harnesses. Any time I hit a pothole or go over a speed bump at a reasonable speed the engine cuts out for a split second, then immediately comes back. The car lurches hard for a second as if I just let off the clutch at a stop with the car in gear.
I believe the Haltech is rebooting or losing power because I have a 3k tach sweep set on startup and it does that as soon as it comes back. The radio, headlights, etc. all remain on like nothing happened, and it all happens in a split second. Any thoughts on why this would happen? I don't know how to troubleshoot it and it's a little hard to reproduce without doing laps in a walmart parking lot... |
Those symptoms sound like you've got an intermittent connection somewhere on the +12V power and/or ground wiring to the Haltech ECU. Could be a bad relay, or just a bad crimp/loose wire connection somewhere in that circuit path. I'm not a Haltech guy, but if it has multiple power pins (e.g., switched and constant +12V) you'll need to test both.

you might try taking a log too, maybe it gives you a hint about what stops working
