Gauge Issues - E6K and FD
I recently had the E6K installed, and during the install, we wired up my gauges the exact same way my friend (Silver7) has his. When we turn the key to the ON position, the gauges will work. They even slightly work when we turn the car over. However, once the car is started, none of the gauges work properly. Does anybody have any suggestions? This is on a 93, and another valuable bit of information might be that I have an alarm installed on the car (The Viper 791XV)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks- Ricky |
oil pressure and coolant temp are on different harness
The spedo you can just leave and pull from the harness.... The tach signal can be picked up from the coil i believe..... i've never installed in the FD but i wouldnt' think it have much effect on the guages. i would say it has something to do with the tach (explain why kinda works when turning over and not at all when it's running) |
double post-
disconnect the tach signal and see what happens |
you got to hook some wires to ground or hook two wires together, m y friends car was doing that, i forgot which wires you have to ground or wire together. I will let you know.

jav - Thanks. If you can get that information it would be appreciated as I have to get it inspected soon and my mechanic won't pass it with that little problem ;)

It shouldnt be too hard to wire them up to get them to work. If you need help, try downloading the servicemanual and wiring diagrams from the I LUV MY RX-7 site, its all there in PDF. |
I'm bringing this back from the dead because i'm running into the same exact problem. Also, I'm 100% sure I have the IGN OUT (Pin 36) going to the correct locations (Tach wire and light green wire on the ignitor). I think I just need to ground the tach. Can anyone help?

The tacho is connected with the Aux. Out wire from the haltech, but, since you will most likely be using it for the toggle select switch you cant, you're supposed to use the tach output from the igniter. |
Are you talking about an FD? because i don't think there is an tach output on the fd igniter.
Let me explain a little, i was using the K2rd adapter harness and decided to go with a flying lead to get rid of the stock harness. when I was using the adapter harness, IGN OUT split, to the tach and the other to the leading ingnition in. Now with the flying lead the tach isn't working and the odemete turns off once you start the car. It seems like i'm missing a ground or something. |
Figured it out. It was the cluster ground wire located in the white connector X-14 up behind the blower. Its a black wire on one side and a black with blue on the side going to the cluster. I just used a ground wire from there to the bolt in the frame where you ground the ECU.
